NEET PG 2022: Plea in SC seeks postponement of exam date March 12
A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court by six MBBS doctors seeking direction to NBE to postpone NEET PG 2022 which is scheduled to be held on March 12.
After the NEET PG 2022 candidates and MP Su Venkatesan demanded the deferment of the exam date which is scheduled to be held on March 12 due to a clash of dates with NEET PG Counselling 2021, now a plea has been filed in the top court of India by six MBBS doctors seeking direction to National Board of Examinations (NBE) to postpone the exam schedule until various other requirements such as mandatory internship and set forth in the PG regulations are met.
The petition has raised a challenge to violations of NEET PG 2000 regulations while admitting candidates in one session. Also, many MBBS graduates' internships got halted due to their duty in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and because of that, they will become non-eligible for the NEET-PG 2022 test as their mandatory internship duty is not completed and that too without any of their fault.
The plea has referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on May 3, 2021, to postpone NEET PG 2021 by at least four months as the services of final year MBBS doctors were needed to handle mild Covid cases. It also challenged the condition given in the information bulletin which provides for a deadline of May 31, 2022, for completing the internship.
"The petitioners (with 1500 candidates) have mentioned that they were in Covid duties in the year 2021 and therefore their internship was postponed. They have submitted that they are victims of circumstances and that they were not informed at any time that serving in Covid duties would tantamount to a situation where they will not be eligible to appear for the NEET-PG," the lawyer said, as reported by NDTV.
The plea has sought an extension to the last date of completion of the internship from May 31.
