NEET PG counselling 2022 to start within 15 days: FAIMA

Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) had a meeting with the senior health officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. After the meeting, Dr Rohan Krishnan, the national president of FAIMA INDIA said that the NEET PG counselling 2022 will certainly start in 15 days.

His tweet reads, "Had a meeting with Senior Health officials of the Ministry @MoHFW_INDIA #MCC for urgent commencement of the NEET PG counselling. It is certainly going to start within 15 days. Also v hd discussion about FMGE interns & improvement of Mental Health of Residents."

"And there will be no NEXT In 2023, dates is not planned yet," he said in another tweet.

Along with the FAIMA INDIA executives, doctors from AIIMS Delhi and RML also had a meeting with DGHS.

Residents' mental health issues were discussed

The key issues discussed in the meeting also included the mental health of residents and NEET PG aspirants. Amid the increasing incidences of suicides in the medical fraternity, FAIMA with inputs from RDA Presidents and executives from all over the country has submitted a few suggestions to the health ministry.

To prevent the unfortunate incidents of suicides among doctors, FAIMA has suggested the following points:

  1. Reduction in the workload of interns and residents so that they get time for adequate rest and sleep. The same can be ensured by adequate resource allocation for works which do not require medical skills or knowledge viz. transfer of stable patients and samples, rotational duties to ensure a weekly off for all residents, etc.
  2. Fixed working hours of residents on the hospital premises.
  3. Mental health awareness programmes among students and residents including the creation of Student Wellness Centres in each medical college (following the Model of AIIMS Delhi)
  4. Annual health and mental health check-ups of medical students and residents.
  5. Starting mentorship systems in an institution e.g. a resident appointed for 4 students, a faculty appointed for a resident, etc.
  6. Recreational (cultural and sports) activities should be conducted on campus.
  7. Compulsory 1-week leave once in 3 months of residency.
