NEET PG vacant seats: MCC is playing with students' future, says SC
NEET PG: Supreme Court has said to the Medical Counselling Committee, "You're playing with the future of students."
The top court of the country has said that leaving NEET PG seats not only creates difficulty for the aspirants but also leads to a shortage of doctors in the country. As many as 1,456 NEET PG seats have remained vacant from May 2022 onwards.
The Bench of Justices MR Shah and Aniruddha Bose said this while hearing a plea seeking a Special Stray Round of counselling to fill the vacant seats available after the conduct of a stray vacant round under the All India Quota.
"Even if the single course has remained vacant, it must not remain unfilled, It's your duty to see that they don't remain vacant. You're playing with the future of students," said the Bench to the counsel appearing for MCC, as reported by Live Law.
Authorities should have conducted mop up round in May, says SC
The Bench also said that in May, when the authorities got to know about the vacant seats, they must have conducted a mop up round.
"What would you get in leaving the seat vacant when we are in need of doctors? Where are we leading? Why is there no streamline? And stress less the education system. Do you know the stress level of the students and the parents?," the Bench added further.
"Why during the midst of the counselling, you're adding the seats? There must be a cut of that as on date there is the number of seats, admissions are given. This increases the chance of corruption if the seats are added," the court added.
