Meghalaya will be the first state in the country to implement NEP 2020 and for that, the state government is taking every required step, the Chief Minister said.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that a task force will be formed to successfully implement the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 released by the Central Government recently. He further said that Meghalaya will be the first state in the country to implement the NEP 2020 this way.

"With the constitution of the task force, the state will be the first in the country to implement the new education policy. Congratulated our Hon'ble Union Minister for Education Sh. @DrRPNishank Ji for the National Education Policy. #Meghalaya will be the 1st State to implement the #education policy. A Task Force will be constituted to take it forward in our State," Conrad posted on his social media handles including Twitter.

State Education Minister Lakhkmen Rymbui while speaking to the reporters said that the new National Education Policy is one of the best policies devised for improvement of the entire education system in the country, including in Meghalaya. The policy will take India to new heights on a global educational platform.

Rymbui also informed that a committee headed by the principal secretary in-charge education department has also been set up. The major focus of the committee will be to study the NEP. The report is expected to be submitted within a few months. "The report will include financial implications too," he said.

The State Education Minister also said that "as per NEP the Centre has increased its contribution to the education sector by two per cent from four per cent of the GDP. I am sure with the help of the Centre we will be able to streamline the education system in the state."
