The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given the approval to start medical colleges in Wanaparthy and Sangareddy districts from the academic year 2022-23.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given the approval to start medical colleges in Wanaparthy and Sangareddy districts of Telangana from the academic year 2022-23 with 150 MBBS seats each.

In the last month, NMC completed an inspection of infrastructure facilities including the medical college building, library, hostels, hospital, availability of faculty, their experience, publications, residents, tutors, nursing and paramedical staff availability at Government Medical College in Wanaparthy and Sangareddy districts, as reported by Telangana Today.

Telangana govt aims for one medical college in each district

The state government is working towards establishing at least one medical college in each district of the state and in line with that the state is aiming to start eight new medical colleges at Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam from the academic year 2022-2023.

The state government accorded administrative sanction of INR 1479 crore to establish eight more medical colleges and upgrade the attached government general hospitals in Rajanna Siricilla, Vikarabad, Khammam, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Asifabad and Jangaon.

Each medical college will be developed with a capacity to offer 100 MBBS seats and the attached government hospital will be upgraded commensurate with the number of medical seats. The Telangana government has identified the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department for constructing the eight new medical colleges while the upgradation works of the eight medical colleges, procurement of medical infrastructure, diagnostic and hospital equipment and furniture will be taken up by Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC).
