PM Modi urges private sector to enter medical education field
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the private sector to start medical colleges and also state governments to frame good policies for land allotment for the same.
At a time when it is highlighted that many Indian medical students go to other smaller countries to study medicine even when they face language problems there, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the private sector why can't they enter this field and start more medical colleges so that India can produce many health professionals in the country only.
He has also said that the state governments should make policies for land allotment for this purpose. Modi government is focussing on increasing the number of colleges in India and upgrading the overall health infrastructure of the country so that the country can be prepared for any upcoming health challenges.
“Our children today are going to small countries for study, especially in medical education. Language is a problem there. They are still going…Can our private sector not enter this field in a big way? Can our state governments not frame good policies for land allotment regarding this,” he asked, as reported by the Nagaland Post.
He was speaking after inaugurating a webinar on the Union budget announcements on the health sector. He highlighted his government's efforts in strengthening the health and wellness services in the country and said that India has adopted a holistic approach in the healthcare system.
“It is our endeavour that critical healthcare facilities should be at the block level, at the district level, near the villages. This infrastructure needs to be maintained and upgraded from time to time. For this the private sector and other sectors will also have to come forward with more energy”, he added.
