Russia-Ukraine crisis: One Indian student dies in Russian shelling on Kharkiv
Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv
An Indian student lost his life today in Kharkiv this morning. Russian Shelling was reported in residential areas in Kharkiv in which at least 17 people have died in Kharkiv city in Ukraine. As per reports, Indian student was a 4th year student of Kharkiv Medical University.
Earlier this morning, Indian Embassy in Kyiv issued an urgent advisory for Indians in the Ukrainian capital city to leave the city immediately.
As per the information posted by Arindam Bagchi, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, India: “With profound sorrow, we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family.”
Russian and Ukrainian forces are engaged in Ukraine's second-largest city Kharkiv on the fifth day since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered military action against Ukraine.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the family. Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate India’s demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones,” Bagchi wrote on Twitter.
Similar action is also being undertaken by Indian Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine.
The government of India has launched Operation Ganga to evacuate Indians from Ukraine, the majority of Indians caught in Ukraine are students. This morning Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting in which it was decided that the Indian Air Force will be deputed to bring back Indians from neighbouring countries of Ukraine.
