India Starts trail shipment to North-East via Chittagong Port, Bangladesh
India sent its first trial shipment of goods to the North-Eastern states of India via Chittagong port of Bangladesh. The goods ship was flagged off from Kolkata Port on July 16 to deliver good to Agartala in Tripura via Chittagong port of Bangladesh.
India and Bangladesh signed the MOU on June 6, 2015 and an agreement on October 25, 2018 regarding such movement of goods to North East India. The standard operating procedure (SOP) on the use of Chittagong and Mongla ports of Bangladesh was finalized in 2019 during the visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Under the agreement, the Indian ships can stay freely at the Chittagong ports for 28 days with no fees.
India successfully test-fires indigenously build “Dhruvastra” anti-tank guided missiles
India had successfully test-fired indigenously developed “Dhruvastra” anti-tank guided missiles. The missile is developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It can be launched from the helicopter. This anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) is one of the most advanced anti-tank weapons in the world.
The ATGM is guided by an infrared imaging seeker (IIS) operating in the lock-on before-launch mode and helps in further strengthening the defence capabilities of the country.
India and Maldives signed an agreement for Emergency Medical Services in Male
India and tourist destination nation Maldives signed an agreement for instituting Emergency Medical Services in Male. Emergency Services will be financed by India. This is helping gesture to establish long-term relations in Health care and Disaster responses. This agreement is in line to pursue India’s soft power goals in the South Asian Region.
India also launched operation ‘SAGAR’ to deliver medical supplies, food items, Ayurvedic medicines to the countries Seychelles, Mauritius, Maldives, Comoros and Madagascar.
Operation Samudra Setu
India launched Operation Samudra Setu to evacuate Indian citizens stranded in the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant, Gujarat reaches criticality on July 22
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Nuclear Scientists associated with the Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant - 3, Surat, Gujarat for achieving criticality on July 22, 2020. The capacity of the power plant is 700 megawatt.
The plant is a Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR).
Swedish Climate Activist Greta Thunberg received Portuguese Gulbenkian Prize of 1 million Euros
Swedish Climate Activist Greta Thunberg was awarded the Portuguese rights award on July 21. She was awarded prize money of 1 million Euros under the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity.
Greta Thunberg pledged the prize money to the Environmental Climate Change activities. She came into the news to avoid flying, Thunberg sailed to North America where she attended the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit.
Japan Approves use of Dexamethasone in COVID-19 treatment
Japan approved the use of Dexamethasone as the second treatment of COVID -19 patience after getting the results from Britain. Dexamethasone will be used along with Remdesivir for the treatment of critical patients.

The US passes a law urging China to de-escalate with India along Line of Actual Control
US House of Representatives on July 22, 2020 passed bipartisan legislation to de-escalate the situation along Line of Actual Control. The act slammed China’s aggression against India in the Galwan Valley. It also condemned the growing territorial assertiveness in and around the South China Sea.
National Defence Authorization Act
The US has passed the National Defence Authorisation Act for the year 2021 condemning the Chinese aggressions all over the world. The resolution of the act was brought in by Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi.
