Putting an end to the colonial-era system, Indian Railways is set to stop recruitment of ‘Khalasi’ or ‘Bungalow Peons’. No new appointments will be done for this post. The Bungalow Peons usually work at the residences of senior officials.

In an order, the Railway Board has said the issue regarding telephone attendant-cum-dak khalasis (TADKs) is under review. The board has decided that any appointment of fresh face substitutes as TADK should not either be processed or made with immediate effect.

All cases approved for such appointments since July 1, 2020 may be reviewed.

After joining the Indian Railways as temporary staff, TADKs become Group D staff after a period of around three years following a screening process. TADK is paid around Rs 20,000 to 22,000 per month and given benefits as per the Group D staffs.

RRB Group D 2020 exam dates for Computer-Based Test (CBT) are expected to be announced in August. RRB NTPC 2020 exam dates will also be announced soon. The Exam Conducting Agency (ECA) will be finalized this month. More than 1.15 crore candidates had registered for RRC Group D exam. A total of 1,03,769 vacancies will be filled through RRB Group D. A total of 1.25 crore applications have been received for RRB NTPC exam. A total of 35,208 vacancies will be filled through RRB NTPC.
