#SavePUFromCentre: Students against Panjab University's conversion to Central University

In May 2022, the Centre received directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court through the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education, to consider the issue of conversion of Panjab University into a Central university.

#SavePUFromCentre is storming Twitter with ferocious tweets. Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the central government to consider the conversion of Panjab University into a central university. Disappointed by the verdict, students of Panjab University, Chandigarh are flooding Twitter with tweets against the conversion of Panjab University to a central university.

Punjab Police also resorted to lathi charge on students from different organisations on Thursday when they were on their way to Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s residence. Following the incident, the students have now launched an online campaign on Twitter #SavePUFromCentre.

HC directs Centre to consider conversion of Panjab University

Established in 1882, Panjab University is a central and state government-funded university located in Chandigarh, according to its official website. In May 2022, the Centre received directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court through the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education, to consider the issue of conversion of Panjab University into a Central university. The next date of hearing is August 30.

Demanding change in the final verdict, the students are now leaving no stone unturned. Check out some of the tweets below:
