SC hears plea on NEET PG Mop-Up Round participation

On March 24, a group of doctors had filed a petition in Supreme Court against the Medical Counselling Committee's (MCC) guideline that bars the participation of doctors in the NEET PG 2021 Mop-Up Round if the candidate has picked up a seat in the State Quota Round 2 counselling. The same day, the results for the NEET PG 2021 Mop-Up Round were announced. Today, the top court of India is hearing the case.

Advocate Shivendra Singh said, "This matter was mentioned on 24th. Till then mop up results were not declared. Now the results are declared. But such declaration is illegal since rank of candidates changes midst of counselling."

"First round had 19,704 seats on offer. total candidates appeared for 46,000. Second round seat added was 1067. Upto round 2 we permitted fresh registrations. Fresh candidates were 2,740. Mop up and stray vacancies are round 3 and 4. Its only so that seats are not held onto by brilliant students. 146 seats were added in mop up round due to an earlier order of DNB PG and NMC counselling is together for first time," he added.

"50 percent states quota and all India quota cannot be compared. We have audio recordings from MCC helpline where they asked us to confidently tell us to appear before all indie quota counselling," he added further.

Justice Chandrachud asks to provide affidavit by today evening

"Grant of stay on counselling is a grave thing since we are dealing with medical students here. It will result in chaos," said Justice Chandrachud, as reported by Bar and Bench.

" Please give us an affidavit by today evening and we can take it up tomorrow," he added.

The court also said, "5,888 seats have been filled in mop up round and how do we intervene at this stage."

Supreme Court bench has said that only problems are being pointed out, there needs to be a solution also, please provide solutions as well.
