AMU alumnus selected for Prime Minister's Research Fellowship

Mohammad Nawaz Khan, an alumnus of the Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University, who is currently pursuing PhD at the IIT Bombay under the joint PhD programme of the IITB-Monash Research Academy (a major Indian-Australian research collaboration), has been selected for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship Scheme (Cycle-11), under the direct entry scheme.

The Prime Minister's Research Fellows (PMRF) Scheme has been designed for improving the quality of research in various higher educational institutions in the country.

About Prime Minister's Research Fellowship

With attractive fellowships, the scheme seeks to attract the best talent into research thereby realizing the vision of development through innovation. The scheme was announced in the Budget 2018-19. The institutes which can offer PMRF include all the IITs, all the IISERs, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and some of the top Central Universities/NITs that offer science and/or technology degrees. The candidates get selected through a rigorous selection process and their performance gets reviewed suitably through a national convention.

Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School emerged as the winner of the three–day Inter School Volley Ball District Level Tournament organized by the ABK High School, Aligarh Muslim University, to mark the Sir Syed’s birth anniversary, while the Al-Barkaat Public School got the runner up trophy after a nail-biting competition played between the two teams.

Giving away the trophies to the winner and runner up teams at a prize distribution ceremony, the chief guest, Prof Ikram Husain (Department of Physical Education) and the special guest Ms Aziza Rizvi (Former Assistant Director, Department of Physical Education) urged schools to organize such tournaments on regular basis as these events help students develop resilience and discipline besides boosting their health and mental well being. They also distributed certificates of appreciation to all participants and felicitated the members of the winner and runner up teams and their coaches with mementos.
