She aims to pursue a degree in Geology at Hansraj College, Delhi University, and has aspirations to work as a researcher in planetary sciences.

Khushkiran Kaur, from a small village in Ludhiana, achieved an impressive score of 784/800 in CUET UG 2024, excelling in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Despite facing several challenges, Khushkiran's strategic approach to preparation and extensive use of mock tests contributed to her success. She aims to pursue a degree in Geology at Hansraj College, Delhi University, and has aspirations to work as a researcher in planetary sciences.

Q: Could you tell us about your family background?

Khushkiran Kaur: I was born in a relatively unknown village named Ghaloti in Ludhiana but was raised in Agra, where my father and uncle run a transport business, and my mother is a housewife. I am an only child brought up in a joint family.

Q: How did you feel about your CUET UG 2024 score?

Khushkiran Kaur: I scored 784 out of 800 in CUET 2024, with my domain subjects being Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Due to various issues both before and after CUET, I was quite stressed about the final result. Therefore, I felt more relieved than anything upon seeing my scorecard.

Q: Can you tell us about your choice of stream in 10+2 and your performance?

Khushkiran Kaur: I opted for PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), also known as non-medical, in 10+2 of my own free will, as I have been interested in astronomy and planetary sciences since childhood. My overall score in the board exams was 587 out of 600, which equates to 97.83%.

Q: What was your strategy for CUET preparation?

Khushkiran Kaur: A strategy which worked for me was to restrict myself to a limited number of resources and revise them multiple times. Additionally, since I had attempted multiple previous year papers from Adda247 as time-bound mocks, I was not exactly caught off guard by the unexpected level of the science domain tests this year.

Q: Who supported you the most during your CUET preparation?

Khushkiran Kaur: Since many changes were made to CUET this year, some at the very last moment, I was not very confident before the exam. However, my parents and teachers from Adda247 supported me throughout and helped me stay focused on my goal of securing a coveted seat at Delhi University.

Q: Can you describe your routine during CUET preparation?

Khushkiran Kaur: I actually wrote Board Exams in 2023 but initially aimed to study abroad, which unfortunately did not work out. As a result, I was at home the entire time during my preparation. I didn't really have a fixed wake-up time, but whenever I got up, I ensured to start studying within half an hour. I preferred not to take breaks during my study sessions as they disrupted my flow. I studied intensively without breaks for five days a week, reserving two days for light studying, and I did my revision through mock tests from Adda247.

Q:   Does DU offer 1 year LLM?

A:

CUET PG exam is conducted by NTA and considered by DU for admission to LLM course. Candidates after completing graduation can apply for DU LLM programme.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for the BSc course at University of Delhi?

The eligibility criteria for pursuing BSc from DU is as follows:

  • Pass in Class 12 or equivalent exam
  • A valid score in the CUET (Common University Entrance Test).
  • The candidate must be a citizen of India

The CUET (Common University Entrance Test) - UG exam accepted by DU is a national-level entrance exam that is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate courses in various central universities, including DU. The scores of CUET are used for admission to both BSc (Hons) and BSc (General) courses in DU.

In addition to the above, some DU-affiliated colleges could have additional eligibility criteria, such as a minimum age limit or a requirement for a set percentage of marks in certain subjects. Hence, candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria of the specific college and course in DU UG Information Bulletin available on the official website.

Q:   How many marks are required in CUET to get admission in DU?

Q:   Can I take admission in DU MBA without CAT?

A:

No, aspirants wishing to apply for any of the MBA colleges under DU must pass CAT. DU colleges offering MBA provide maximum weightage to the CAT percentile. Check below the CAT weighate for admission at DU:

DU Colleges CAT Percentile Weightage
FMS Delhi 50%
DBE 70%
DSE 80%

Apart from CAT, the performance of the candidates in Class 10, Class 12, graduation will also be considered for MBA admission.

Q:   Can I take admission to DU with 60% in Class 12?

A:

DU is considered one of the most competitive universities in India for Commerce, Science and Arts education at the undergraduate level. The university and its affiliated colleges was attracting the cream layer of crowd till the time admission was subject to Class 12 scores. While reserved category candidates still had minor chances of getting into a not-so-popular course of DU with 60% in Class 12, a General category student with 60% had no chance of getting into any good college or course at DU.

However, starting 2022, DU admission process has shifted to CUET-UG based admission process. Those with a valid score in CUET UG exam who have passed their Class 12 are eligible to take admission now. While the chances of getting into a good DU college are still low at this score, the chances of getting a seat have increased now (provided you score extremely well in CUET UG).

Q: What are your future plans and career goals?

Khushkiran Kaur: After completing my bachelor's degree in Geology, I plan to pursue higher education in planetary sciences. Following that, I'd be qualified to work as a researcher at ISRO or NASA.

Q: When did you start preparing for CUET?

Khushkiran Kaur: I began preparing for CUET in November 2023 after receiving rejections from my dream universities abroad. I absolutely don't recommend starting preparation this late. Fortunately, things worked out for me because I was already familiar with the syllabus from taking the Board Exams that same year, and because of the valuable guidance that I had received from the excellent faculty at Adda247.

Q: Which courses and universities are you targeting?

Khushkiran Kaur: B.Sc. (Hons) in Geology at Hansraj College, Delhi University, is something that I am targeting.

Q: What advice would you give to students preparing for CUET 2025?

Khushkiran Kaur: I'd just like to say that students preparing for CUET 2025 must leverage the fact that they are allowed to leave 10 questions. So, instead of trying to study every material they can get their hands on, they must focus primarily on the NCERT textbooks and the notes they've made and revise them multiple times. Time management is especially crucial for the science domain tests and the best way to learn that is by giving multiple mock tests with proper seating.
