Prof. Singh detailed that 6,566 promotions have been made in academic posts, with 6,248 in colleges and 318 in departments. Furthermore, 4,619 permanent appointments have been made at DU.
Delhi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh has announced significant developments at Delhi University, including a total of 6,566 promotions and 4,619 permanent appointments across various colleges and departments. These announcements were made during the latest Executive Council (EC) meeting, showcasing the university's commitment to academic and administrative excellence.
Promotions and Appointments
Prof. Singh detailed that 6,566 promotions have been made in academic posts, with 6,248 in colleges and 318 in departments. Furthermore, 4,619 permanent appointments have been secured, including 4,536 Assistant Professors, 50 Associate Professors, 16 Professors, and 17 Principals/Directors. Additionally, seven Deputy Librarians have been appointed to non-academic posts.
E-Governance Expansion
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the success of the Samarth e-Governance initiative launched by Delhi University in 2019. Designed to digitalize governance in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India, Samarth has empowered over 4,000 institutions in 32 states and union territories by July 2024, including central and state universities, IITs, IIMs, NITs, IISERs, and other institutes of national importance. The goal is to connect 10,000 HEIs by March 2025.
Admissions Update
Regarding admissions for the academic year 2024-25, Prof. Singh reported that approximately 90% of postgraduate (PG) seats have been filled after three rounds, with about 11,000 out of 13,000 seats occupied. The first spot round of admissions is currently underway. In the integrated law programmes, 95 out of 120 seats have been filled, with the spot round ongoing for the remaining seats. Around 200 candidates have been admitted to the B.Tech program, with the fourth list soon to be released.
Increased Gratuity Limits
The EC approved an increase in retirement and death gratuity limits from βΉ20 lakh to βΉ25 lakh, effective from 1 January 2024. This adjustment aligns with the rise in dearness allowance rates from 46% to 50%. For employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS), the revised limit will be adopted upon government notification.
Revised Passing and Promotion Norms
The EC also approved new guidelines for passing and promotion under the National Education Policy Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (NEP UGCF-2022). Students must now obtain at least 28 credits out of the total credits of both semesters to be promoted to the next year. This change ensures that students focus on core academic subjects, promoting better academic development. The previous requirement was to pass 50% of the papers in the first and second semesters combined, which could be met with just 36% of the total credits.
