While replying to a question by Shiksha.com on why Delhi University being the most sought-after university in the country, is not in the top 10, Prof Singh said that the University of Delhi is continuously improving its rankings.
Delhi University, Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh has said that University of Delhi will soon come in the top 10 in the NIRF ranking. DU was ranked 11 in the NIRF 2023 Ranking in the University category.
While replying to a question by Shiksha.com on why Delhi University being the most sought-after university in the country, is not in the top 10, Prof Singh said that the University of Delhi is continuously improving its rankings. DU has reached the first position in India in the QS World University Rankings (Sustainability), whereas last year it was at fourth rank.
He said that University of Delhi is a multi-faculty big institution which is providing education to the masses. This difference should be understood before comparing it with smaller sized premier institutions in terms of ranking.
Prof. Singh highlighted DU's substantial improvement in rankings, moving from fourth place last year to clinch the prestigious first position this year. This achievement reflects DU's unwavering dedication to fostering sustainability initiatives within its academic and operational spheres.
In a press conference held at DU, Prof. Singh emphasized the university's status as a prominent multi-faculty institution serving a diverse student body. He urged stakeholders to recognize DU's vast scope and contributions to higher education when evaluating its rankings against those of smaller premier institutions.
With the admission season underway, DU has announced the commencement of registrations for postgraduate (PG) programs, set to begin on April 25. Prospective students will have until May 25 to complete their registrations before the start of the second phase of admissions.
DU PG Admissions 2024
Providing further insights into the admissions process, Prof. Haneet Gandhi, Dean Admissions, outlined the allocation of seats for the 2024-25 academic year. DU will offer admissions to a total of 13,500 PG seats (including NCWEB), along with 120 seats each for three B.Tech and 60 seats each for BA LLB and BBA LLB courses. He said that this time MA Hindu Studies, MA Public Health, MA Chinese Studies, MA Korean Studies and Master in Fine Arts have also been included in PG admissions.
