Dr. Rahman has been involved in the nano-based modified cement and concrete composite for the last ten years. Meanwhile, he holds 2 Australian patents, 1 South African patent, 1 Indian patent and 1 German patent as well.
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) researcher Dr. Ibadur Rahman, Assistant Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering along with other researchers from the university has received a patent as an intellectual property from the Patent Office, Federal Republic of Germany.
The main objective of the invention termed "Composition of a Geopolymer Concrete mixture" is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by fully eliminating away with the consumption of cement in the concrete-making process.
Dr. Rahman stated, “It is imperative for the construction and related industries to undergo a green revolution; in other words, they must embrace and implement eco-friendly materials.”
The invention investigates the implications on the mechanical and durability qualities of geopolymer concrete mixes by substituting fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag for cement in its entirety, as well as the addition of two additives: nano silica and silica fume.“The combination of nano silica and silica fumes enhances the mechanical properties, durability, and microstructure of the concrete. The modified concrete exhibits improved morphological properties due to the pore filling, resulting in a denser and more compact structure”, said the inventors.
