From the upcoming academic year, students will not be required to submit migration certificate when migrating from one varsity to another within the state.
The decision to do away with migration certificate has been taken in view of unwarranted delays in issuing the certificate, especially as the information furnished in the certificate was almost redundant with a transfer certificate.
“We found during verification that all the details that a migration certificate would have are already present in the transfer and degree certificates of the students,” secretary to the higher education department, Sunil Paliwal was quoted as saying by a national daily.
“We carried out discussions with vice-chancellors and also director of school education but could not understand the purpose of this migration certificate. Finding it irrelevant, we decided that we need not insist on migration certificate within the state universities that come under the state higher education department. Orders have been passed after taking consent from the higher education minister,” he said.
“Delay in obtaining migration certificate often cost the students their seat in other state universities, Paliwal added.
The decision was arrived at after members of the syndicate of some of the state universities raised the issue with the higher education department. The new system will come into effect this academic year.
Earlier this year, Bharathidasan University became the first university to do away with submission of migration certificates at the time of admission to university departments or affiliated colleges within the state, to avoid visiting the old college and follow the tedious process of obtaining migration certificate. The candidates have to wait for more than two weeks to obtain migration certificate. At time administrative delay in issuing the certificate costs candidates their admission.
However, the rule is not applicable for candidates opting for admission from outside the state or seeking admission outside the state.
