IISc has been securing a top rank in the university category in the NIRF India Rankings 2023 since its inception. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has secured the second and third position respectively. It must be noted that this is the second time that JMI has been named in the top 3 ranks. Jadavpur University and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) ranked in the top 5.

NIRF India Ranking 2023:  Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2023) today; i.e. June 5, 2023. Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has once again emerged as one of the best Universities in the country. IISc has been securing a top rank in the university category in the NIRF India Rankings 2023 since its inception.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has secured the second and third position respectively. It must be noted that this is the second time that JMI has been named in the top 3 ranks. Jadavpur University and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) ranked in the top 5. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham got fourth and fifth respectively in the previous year.

The NIRF Indian Ranking 2022 was announced on July 15, 2022. NIRF Ranking 2023 was announced on September 9 in virtual mode owing to COVID-19 restrictions. Until 2022, there were only four categories: Overall, Colleges, Universities, and Research Institutions, and seven subject domains: Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Medical, Architecture, and Dental. However, from this year onwards, NIRF has added one new discipline; i.e. Agriculture and Allied Sectors. The Ministry has also renamed the architecture disciplines ‘Architecture and Planning’.

From 3,500 colleges in 2016, the number of participating institutes has increased to 8,686 this year. NIRF Ranking 2023 has been announced on the basis of the Teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and peer perception.
