UGC Chairman Hints at Adjusting CUET UG 2024 Exam Dates to Prevent Clash with Lok Sabha Elections

National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced CUET-UG to be conducted from May 15 to May 31, 2024. However, with two exam dates coinciding with the election dates on May 20 and May 25.

In response to concerns over the overlap between CUET UG 2024 exam dates and the Lok Sabha elections, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman, Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, has hinted at potential alterations to the exam schedule.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had initially announced CUET-UG to be conducted from May 15 to May 31, 2024. However, with two exam dates coinciding with the election dates on May 20 and May 25, Prof Kumar has indicated a forthcoming revision.

Shiksha.com also reported that Lok Sabha election schedule overlaps with some of the major entrance exams, which include CUET UG 2024, JEE Main 2024 and NEET UG 2024.

Prof Kumar stated, "After the last date for filling out applications on March 26, 2024, we will know the number of students registered for CUET-UG and their geographical distribution. Based on this data and the election dates, NTA will announce the date sheet for CUET-UG between May 15 and May 31."

On March 3, Responding to a query posed by Shiksha.com regarding the potential overlap between the Lok Sabha elections and the commencement of CUET UG 2024 on May 15, UGC Chairman, Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, indicated that adjustments to the exam schedule might be necessary. When asked whether the dates of the initial exams or the entire schedule would be altered, Prof Kumar advised waiting for an official announcement from the National Testing Agency (NTA). He stated, "Please wait until NTA announces. There is nothing to add to what has already been reported."

The Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had earlier announced the Lok Sabha election dates, set to be held in 7 phases from April 19 to June 1, with results declared on June 4. This scheduling clash has raised concerns, especially as it coincides with other major entrance examinations across the country, including NEET UG 2024 and JEE Main 2024.

CUET UG 2024 Exam Dates

The CUET UG 2024 exam, a national-level entrance test conducted by NTA, aims at facilitating admissions to various undergraduate programs in central universities and other participating institutions such as Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, and Hyderabad University.

As per the CUET UG 2024 notification released by NTA, the registration process is currently underway, with the last date set for March 26, 2024. Candidates seeking admission to UG courses through CUET UG exam are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria before submitting their applications. The exam, scheduled initially from May 15 to May 31, 2024, is expected to be rescheduled to avoid clashes with the Lok Sabha election dates.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the CUET UG 2024 notification at https://exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG/. Candidates can now fill the CUET application form 2024 online. Only candidates seeking admission to UG courses offered through CUET UG exam in central, state, private or deemed universities must fill the CUET form 2024.  Students must ensure to fulfill the prescribed CUET 2024 eligibility criteria before filling the registration form. CUET 2024 registration last date is March 26, 2024 till 11:50 PM.
