Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin calls for all-party meet on Jan 8 for exemption from NEET
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on January 8 to discuss the next course of action for exemption from NEET.
Many poor medical aspirants reportedly died in Tamil Nadu allegedly by suicide fearing National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) results. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has been vocal about the issue and he is demanding exemption from NEET in the state.
The state Assembly had adopted a Bill to eliminate NEET and give medical admission on the basis of marks obtained in Class 12. The bill is pending with the Centre. Now, CM Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on January 8 to decide the next course of action.
He has claimed that the Centre has not acted on the Tamil Nadu Assembly Bill seeking exemption for the state from NEET, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
He alleged that the Bill sent to the Governor earlier has not been forwarded to the President of India.
Stalin said in the state Assembly, "In order to discuss the next plan of action, the State Government has convened an all-party meeting on January 8. Our struggle against NEET and for social justice will continue."
He again reiterated that NEET is favouring the affluent students, as claimed in the AK Rajan report, and the entrance examination is against the interests of the rural students.
AK Rajan is the former Madras High Court judge who had submitted his report to the state government that the majority of seats through NEET are taken by affluent students with nothing much left for the poor students.
