'Dead lizard' in midday meal, 200 students fall ill in Bihar school

The students alleged that a dead lizard was found on the plate of a Class VIII student and when they complained to Principal Chittaranjan Prasad Singh, they were informed that it was a brinjal and not a lizard.

As many as 200 students have taken ill after consuming mid-day meal at a school in Bhagalpur, Bihar. The students are being treated at a local hospital. The incident came to the fore after a student, who had consumed the meal, complained of vomiting. Soon after, other students also fell sick and were shifted to a hospital. 

Meanwhile, the students alleged that they were forcefully fed the meal by the school authorities. They alleged that a dead lizard was found on the plate of a Class VIII student. When the students complained to Principal Chittaranjan Prasad Singh, they were informed that it was a brinjal and not a lizard.  The education department has taken note of the matter and the police said action will be taken against the school principal and others if found guilty.  

In a similar incident, as many as 50 students fell ill after consuming mid-day meals at a school in Bhojpur, Bihar. The school administration had given albendazole tablets to the students followed by the midday meal. After the meal, the students fell sick, with a majority complaining of stomachache and vomiting. The school teachers immediately informed the local police and took the children to a hospital. An inquiry into the matter was initiated by the Education Department.
