Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction for an amount of INR 69.52 crore towards procurement and distribution of Adolescent Health Kits to girl students studying in government schools and colleges.

In an attempt to spread hygiene and health care awareness among female students, the Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction for an amount of INR 69.52 crore towards procurement and distribution of Adolescent Health Kits to girl students studying in government schools and colleges.

Under the adolescent health programme, girl students studying in Classes 8 to Intermediate second year (12th Class) in government schools and government colleges will get kits, comprising zipper bag, sanitary napkins and water bottles from the government.

The expenditure shall be met from the NHM (National Health Mission) funds, the government said in an order dated November 16, adding that the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare and Mission Director (NHM) shall take necessary action.

Meanwhile, a Deccan Chronicle report revealed that More than one in every five schools in Telangana, or 21.2 per cent, do not have a functional girls' toilet, and 17.2 per cent do not have any toilet, which is among the worst for a major state. Only the Northeastern states perform worse than Telangana in this parameter, according to the Union education ministry’s recently released Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) 2021-22 report.

According to the report, 78.8 per cent of schools in Telangana, including government, government-aided, private unaided, and other management schools, had a functional girls' toilet. The problem primarily affects government schools, with 70.6 per cent having functional toilets compared to 98.4 per cent in private schools.
