The Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) administration has declared holidays from October 11 to 30 for undergraduate classes and postponed the undergraduate mid-semester exams, which were scheduled to take place from October 14, 2022. The institute has issued a notice asking students to vacate hostels by October 11, 2022. The notice read, “In view of the prevailing condition on MANIT campus and review of classes conducted…. all UG students are required to vacate the hostels by 6 pm on October 11, 2022.”

Tiger caught on camera

A tiger cub has been roaming on the MANIT campus in Bhopal for the past five days. The images of the wild cat has also been captured on cameras installed on the campus.

The institute had shifted to the online mode of teaching after forest officials found pug marks of the wild cat on the campus. Bhopal divisional forest officer (DFO) Alok Pathak said, “Our cameras have clicked photos of the male tiger cub T-123-4, aged more than two years and born to T-123, on the MANIT campus.” According to behavioural studies on tigers, they move out from a place in seven to eight days. This is the animal’s sixth day on the campus, and it might move out in a day or two, the official said.

MANIT registrar Doley said there was no need to panic as forest officials have cordoned off the area where the tiger was staying. At least 1,000-odd people who are family members of staffers and teachers and 5,000 hostellers living on the campus have been asked to stay indoors at night and early mornings when it is dark,. We have carried out drills on the campus to deal with emergencies, he said.
