UGC asks universities, colleges to organise IPR Awareness programme

Govt of India has launched a NIPAM with an aim to impart IPR Awareness, Training to one million students before 15th August 2022.

University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked universities and colleges to organize an IPR awareness training programme for a better understanding of the patent filing process. UGC and Education ministry is aiming to train one million students in IPR filing by August 15, 2022.

As part of 'Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav' to celebrate the achievements of the country and its people, the Ministry of Education and UGC has organized a "Launch of Online Workshop for Universities and Colleges on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)" on January 17, 2022, with the collaboration of DPIIT & Controller General of Patents Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM).

The Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CDPDTM), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has launched a "National Intellectual property Awareness Mission (NIPAM)" with an aim to impart IPR Awareness, Training to one million students before 15th August 2022 and to create a pool of Master Trainers (MTs) of IPRs for a better cascading effect.

The office of the CGPDTM will provide resource persons for the IPR awareness programme and conduct a separate training session for the identified MTs. The UGC notice states: “In this connection, all the participants, coordinators and also the MTs will be conferred upon certificate by the office or the CGPDTM upon offline/online participation in awareness/training programme under the NIPAM.”

Vice-Chancellors of universities and college principals have been requested to organize an IPR awareness/ training programme under the said mission and nominate one faculty member from their institution to be trained as Master Trainer in IPR.

The Universities and colleges have been asked to send their request for organizing an awareness programme under NIPAM. and connect with respective nodal points.
