UGC has stated that at the time of issuing the offer of admission to any international student, the institution would ask the student to register on the portal, if not already registered, and generate a unique Education India portal ID (El-lD).
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed the higher education institutions across the country that are admitting or are desirous of admitting international students to update the relevant details on the portal at the earliest.
In a letter, the UGC has stated that at the time of issuing the offer of admission to any international student, the institution would ask the student to register on the portal, if not already registered, and generate a unique Education India portal ID (El-lD). A new Education India portal (educationindia.gov.in) has been developed as an initiative to showcase the strengths of Indian institutions to international students and make available all information about Indian HEIs at one place.
As per the guidelines mentioned in the UGC letter to HEIs, "A student has to register on the portal only once even if he is applying/ has got offers from multiple institutions. “It will be mandatory for all such institutions admitting international students to have AISHE code which will be used as login ID on the portal."
As per UGC, the registrations will be opened for other institutions that desire to register and are otherwise eligible to admit foreign students. Registration of such institutions will be confirmed after a verification process in the second phase.
After updating of data by the HEIs, the portal will be opened for international students to search the institutions and programmes as per their choice. The portal will also be instrumental in promoting Indian institutions and programmes to international students across the globe.
