A student of St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Delhi, Priyanshu Agrawal cracked the NTSE Stage-I 2020 exam and got the Delhi State Rank 3. His total score in National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Stage-I exam is 182/194. His section-wise scores in the exam include 95/96 in Mental Ability Test (MAT) and 87/98 in Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
Extremely focused, Priyanshu aims to crack JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2020 exams and has already started his preparation for the same. However, apart from working towards his goal, Priyanshu enjoys swimming, playing badminton and watching English movies. Both of Priyanshu’s parents are doctors and in government jobs.
Shiksha got talking to Priyanshu to know what strategy he adopted for NTSE exam preparation. Go through the complete interview with Priyanshu below.
Q. Congratulations on cracking NTSE Stage-I! Do you expect to be the topper of NTSE 2020?
At this stage, what I can say is that I will give my best for NTSE Stage-II exam preparation.
Q. Did you take any coaching for this exam?
I am enrolled in a four-year programme of FIITJEE for JEE 2022.
Q. What was your preparation strategy that helped you crack NTSE Stage-I?
Q. How was the prep different for NTSE? Did you have to prepare anything extra?
Since NTSE contains MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions)-based questions, I solved all MCQ books provided by FIITJEE for SAT and MAT.

Q. How did you manage time between board exam prep and NTSE exam prep?
My focus during Class 10 was on completing the FIITJEE material for IIT-JEE and MAT section of NTSE. Since NTSE examination was on November 19, I started preparation exclusively for it approximately one month before the exam date. I exclusively started studying for board exams after NTSE examination was over.
Q. Which books did you read to prepare for the exam?
For SAT, I read Class 9 and 10 NCERT books of SST, Maths and Science subjects. For MAT, I only went through the study material from FIITJEE.

Q. How did you deal with your strengths and weaknesses while preparing for the exam?
Maths and MAT were my strengths as I enjoy solving problem-based questions. Biology and SST were my weak areas for the exam. My father helped me in making notes for Biology and SST and solving MCQs.

Q. What will be your preparation strategy for NTSE Stage-II exam?
My preparation strategy for stage-II will be the same as stage-I, that is, focusing on NCERT books and the study material provided by my coaching institute.
Q. Any tips for students who are planning to take the exam next year?
Regular study and discipline is the key to success. For SAT, focus on NCERT books of Class 9 and 10 and solve as many MCQs as possible.
Q. What are your future plans?
Presently, my focus is to get a good rank in JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2022.
