Candidates must be between 21 and 30 years old as per RBI Grade B eligibility criteria. For MPhil and PhD, the upper age limit is 32 and 34, respectively. Relaxation in the upper age limit is provided to candidates belonging to the reserved categories.

The educational qualification required for RBI Grade B exam is given below:
Officers in Grade 'B' (DR)-(General)
- Graduation in any discipline /Equivalent technical or professional qualification with minimum 60 per cent marks (50 per cent for SC/ST/PwBD applicants

- Postgraduation in any discipline/Equivalent technical or professional qualification with minimum 55 per cent marks (pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD applicants) in aggregate of all semesters/years
- Graduate candidates should note that any technical or professional course from recognised university or institute that is taken after Class 12 and is at least three years duration or those possessing professional or technical qualifications which are considered equivalent to professional or technical graduation are eligible to apply for the exam
- Postgraduate level candidates should note that any technical or professional course taken after graduation and is at least two years duration or recognised by the Government as equivalent to professional or technical post-graduation will be eligible for the exam
