In a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court on Wednesday has passed an interim order allowing women to appear for National Defence Academy or NDA exam for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). This is for the first time that women candidates are allowed to appear in NDA exam. The Apex Court has also said that admissions will be subject to the final orders of the court. The court has also directed UPSC to take out corrigendum and advertise it widely.

Supreme Court has also slammed the Army for not allowing it to do so. On Army’s submission that it’s a policy decision, the Apex Court said that this decision is based on ‘Gender Discrimination’. A division bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy passed the interim order in a writ petition filed by Kush Kalra seeking permission for women candidates to appear for the NDA exam. The matter will be heard again on September 8, 2021.

NDA II 2021 exam will be conducted on November 14. Earlier, the exam was scheduled to be conducted on September 5, 2021. However, after reviewing the prevailing situation due to COVID-19, UPSC had taken the decision to postponed NDA (II) 2021 exam. NDA II 2021 application form was available from June 9 to 29. NDA II admit card is expected to be released in the last week of October.
