Union Government grant permanent commission to women in the Army

Union Government of India on July 23 formally approved the permanent commission to women in the Indian Army. The order specifies grant of PC to Short Service Commissioned (SSC) Women Officers in all ten streams of the Indian Army i.e Army Air Defence (AAD), Signals, Engineers, Army Aviation, Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME), Army Service Corps (ASC), Army Ordnance Corps (AOC), and Intelligence Corps besides the existing streams of Judge and Advocate General (JAG) and Army Educational Corps (AEC).
The order came after five months of Supreme Court decision implying that the Short Service Commission (SSC) women officers are entitled to the permanent commission

National Broadcasting Day Celebrated on July 23

National Broadcasting Day is celebrated on July 23 all over India to commemorate the first-ever radio broadcast aired in India. The first radio broadcast was made on July 23, 1927 from Bombay Station. 90 years ago on July 23, 1927, the Bombay Presidency Radio Club started broadcasting over Indian airwaves.

Later, it was taken over by the government. Later on April 1, 1930, the broadcasting began with Indian State Broadcasting Service (ISBS). On June 8, 1936, the ISBS was renamed All India Radio. The motto of AIR is “Bahujan Hitaya Bahujan Sukhaya”.

Flipkart acquired Walmart India Business

Flipkart on July 23, 2020 declared that it has acquired Walmart Inc’s Best Price wholesale cash-and-carry business in India. Walmart is the parent company having a majority share in Flipkart. This move aligns with the Flipkart plan of launching the Flipkart Wholesale soon.
This acquisition will provide the muscles strength to take on the completion from Amazon and other upcoming Indian players such as Jio Mart.

UN General Assembly in September 2020 will be organised virtually

United Nation’s General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled to be conducted in September 2020 will be organised virtually and the world leaders will send their pre-recorded video statements for the session. The 75th session of UNGA will begin on September 15, 2020.

This will be the first time in the history of UNGA. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande is serving as the president of UNGA since September 15, 2019. He is a Nigerian Ambassador to the UN.

Navy commissioned its largest Solar Power Plant in Kerala

Navy commissioned a 3MW Solar Power Plant at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala on 22 July 2020. This is in line with the Government of India initiative of ‘National Solar Mission’ to achieve 100GW of solar power by 2022. The solar plant is the largest in the Indian Navy and has an estimated life of 25 years.

South Korea launched its first Military Satellite ANASIS-II

The American private operator Space X launched South Korea’s first Military Satellite ANASIS-II from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on July 22, 2020. The satellite is expected to reach the Geo-synchronous orbit, at about 36,000 kilometres in space. It will reach the orbit in two weeks and South Korea’s military will take over the system in October.
It made South Korea the 10th country in the world to have a dedicated satellite for military communication.

China launched its first Mars Mission

China launched its first Mars Mission on July 23, 2020 from Wenchang spacecraft launch site on the coast of southern China’s island province of Hainan. The Mars probe has been named Tianwen 1. China is now the fifth country which launched the Mars mission after the USA, Russia, EU and India.

China launched its rover and with Long March-5 rocket, China’s largest and most powerful launch vehicle. It will take seven months to reach Mars orbit.
