Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh hosted a virtual felicitation ceremony for all the IAS Toppers 2020 at New Delhi on August 25. All the 25 top rank holders joined the felicitation ceremony through Video conferencing. This is a yearly ceremony where the IAS toppers are called to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) office in North Block, with all their testimonials. But because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year DoPT organised the ceremony virtually through the video conferencing.

The Minister stated that there are 12 Engineers in the top 25 rank holders. He implied that in India, where lots of technical development is going on, the technical orientation of the IAS toppers will help them supervise the entire process in a better way and their technical background will help them make an informed decision. The Civil Services in India is a generalist service and the IAS officer can be posted in any department irrespective of his background Knowledge or specialisation. Their technical orientation will help them head the technical departments in a better way.
Dr Jitendra Singh pointed out that in recent years, the candidates from new states are featured in the top in the Civil Services Exam. He observed that a few years back only the candidates from certain states secure the top ranks but now the candidates from Haryana, Punjab and Jammy and Kashmir are making their mark in the Civil Services Exams. He also said that the women are also consistently securing top ranks in the UPSC exams in recent years.
He felicitated the top 25 candidates (rank-wise) of the IAS exam 2019. This includes the IAS topper 2020 Pradeep Singh, Jatin Kishore rank 2, Pratibha Verma all India rank 3 (toppers among the female category).
βHe said, they are entering the services at one of the best times in the history of post-independent India, when under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India was on the ascent and would soon be a frontline nation of the world,β an official statement said. In the recently declared IAS result 2019, 829 candidates were recommended based on the marks secured in the IAS mains (written) and the IAS interview. The IAS result 2019 includes 197 women in the recommended candidates, which is around 24% of the total.
