I found it interesting so I chose Forensic Science for my undergraduate degree. The course has a duration of 3 years and it includes subjects like Psychology, Ballistics, Cyber Forensics, Criminology and Criminal Law. It also involves a crime scene investigation.
I did my schooling in my hometown in Belagavi district, Karnataka till 10th standard. After completion of my 10th class with distinction, I opted the Science stream because I was good in Science and Mathematics. I wanted to explore Chemistry field as I was very curious about chemicals. So, I chose Science as my stream for 11-12th.
After 12th I wanted to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. I started searching for a good college. While looking at one of the college brochures I came to know about forensic science. I got quite curious and gathered more information about it from the internet. I found it interesting so I chose Forensic Science for my undergraduate degree.
The course has a duration of 3 years and it includes subjects like Psychology, Ballistics, Cyber Forensics, Criminology and Criminal Law. It also involves a crime scene investigation. So it is a really interesting and adventurous field.
I wanted to join the police department as a child. So the forensic science field felt apt to me as a career option. I chose the Yashwantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara for doing BSc in Forensic Science. I did not give any entrance exam for admission. I got admission based on merit because the institute does not conduct any entrance exam for any course. The admission process is completely based on the merit list.
The students have to fill a form and apply online for admission on the college website. The college then releases 3-4 merit lists based on the number of seats available. If a student name is present in the merit list he is given 3-4 days to confirm his/her admission.
The cut-offs are often very high. The first merit list had a cut off of 95% and my name was not there in that list. So I waited for the second merit list and finally, I got admission.
I also applied to other colleges but they didn't match my criteria. Many government colleges had a very high cut off for admission while in private colleges the fees was very high.
Yashwantrao Chavan Institute of Science has low fees as compared to other private colleges. The institute has well qualified, knowledgeable. and supportive faculty members. It has an attractive campus with a well-designed infrastructure providing good facilities.
My college life has been amazing so far. I have enjoyed a lot in the last one year. Our batch is a mixed bag comprising students from five different states (Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra and Jammu Kashmir). It has been a great experience to learn with all these people. We are like a family. Our batch is a combination of different religions, caste and cultures. Students have come from different places and speak different languages. It is a unique example of unity in diversity.
I like to attend all the classes as they all are very interesting. The faculty members are very friendly and supportive. None of the lectures seems boring. I enjoy being in my college.
Our department is very famous for its amazing performance in all the college activities. The forensic department students have been quite active in all events organized by the college. The college organizes various sports and cultural events from time to time. With an attractive campus, the institute also provides all the facilities required by a student.
The special thing about our college is that it has YCIII centre. It provides skill-based training to students which is very helpful for the overall development of a student.
Our institute conducts a lot of extra-curricular activities like the Youth Festival. The students can also participate in various cultural programs, sports events, NSS or NCC activities. I am also a part of the NSS group in our college. I have learned a lot after coming to this college. It has been an amazing experience.
