April 22, 2024: To honor "World Liver Day," the Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus hosted an enlightening International Seminar on the theme "Keep Your Liver Healthy and Disease Free." Dr. Ashok Choudhury, Hepatology and Liver Transplant Group, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, stated in his discussion of "Therapeutic Implications in Acute and Chronic Liver Failure (ACLF)" that "Wellness includes all aspects--emotional, physical, financial, spiritual, social, and cultural." However, we frequently overlook our health and do not pay attention to minor diseases that may eventually develop into a serious disease. The most common liver diseases include fatty liver from obesity, hepatitis from diabetes, and cirrhosis from heavy alcohol consumption. As a result, having a healthy lifestyle, eating a nutritious diet, and exercising regularly is critical to avoid such disorders."
Dr. Ashish Goyal, DKFZ German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland, remarked, "The subject for this year's World Liver Day is - "Be Vigilant, Get Regular Liver Check-Ups and Prevent Fatty Liver Diseases." The number of deaths caused by liver illnesses increases year after year, which is concerning. There is a lack of awareness, and individuals know little about the liver and its significance in our bodies. Thus, World Liver Day is a day to commit to a healthier lifestyle, eating, getting enough sleep, practicing mindfulness to reduce stress, and avoiding alcohol and tobacco, all of which can improve liver function and prevent liver disease."
Prof Dhyan Chandra, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Centre Buffalo, New York, USA, emphasized the importance of early detection, saying, "According to recent studies, around 20 lakh people die from liver diseases every year around the world - the numbers are expected to rise to a 35 percent increase by 2030." The liver's functions include the synthesis and excretion of bile, the elimination of chemicals such as bilirubin, cholesterol, and hormones, and the metabolism of lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates. In many circumstances, people do not appear unwell or weak at first, and by the time symptoms develop, it is too late to receive adequate treatment. As a result, prompt identification and treatment are critical in the case of liver illnesses."
Dr. B.C. Das, Chairman of the Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), emphasized the importance of the Seminar, saying, "This International Seminar intends to raise awareness about liver disorders and Hepatitis by sharing information on liver diseases. Many people may be suffering from concealed liver illnesses like hepatitis and are unaware of it, putting them in danger of grave health repercussions. All of this is due to a lack of understanding and awareness regarding hepatitis, as well as a reluctance to seek testing and immunization, which are widely available throughout the country.
During the Seminar, AIMMSCR Research Scholars Bornika Roy, Basundhara Das, Jaydev Pal, Prachi Sharma, Bharti Rakhecha, and Shivani Jaiswal presented various insights and shared valuable information for the benefit of the students and researchers, while Prof. (Dr.) Subhrajit Biswas, Director, AIMMSCR, welcomed the guests.

Therefore, it is essential to use tourism to achieve sustainability and act responsibly. It is not only the government’s responsibility but everyone’s responsibility to ensure that eco-friendly practices are adopted, and the tourists become aware of the damages being caused to the environment," he said.
In contrast to "Responsible Tourism," which focuses on accepting accountability for achieving sustainable development through tourism, Prof. Goodwin defined "Sustainable Tourism" as an abstract long-term objective without a clear conclusion. Citing Kerala as an example, he continued by saying that the 2008 Second International Conference on "Responsible Tourism in Destinations" assisted Kerala in creating "Responsible Tourism" as its state- and local-level tourism strategy. He declared that this is a crucial decade and that "greenwashing" is still common in the tourism industry as he ended his lecture. As a result, we need to concentrate on forming partnerships for change, and the government needs to act against those who impede development.
