B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2027
3.4
4Placements3Infrastructure3Faculty3Crowd & Campus Life4Value for Money
It is a good and well-known college, and it has value for money.
Placements: I am currently pursuing a B.Tech in civil engineering at HBTU Kanpur, and I am in my second year. The placement percentage for civil engineering is low compared to other branches at our college. Around 45-50% of students got placed in the civil engineering course. Graduates who study civil engineering often go on to take engineering examinations such as SSC JE, State AE, JE, ESE, and GATE, and many successfully get selected in these assessments. Top recruiters for civil engineering graduates include L&T, Technip Energy, and Aarti Industries, among others. Around 90-95% of students secure internships in their third year, with opportunities at companies like Aarti Industries, etc. Many water treatment plant and thermal energy plant companies also visit our college. These companies typically hire students for positions such as junior engineer, project manager, and site inspector.
Infrastructure: Facilities in our department are quite good. There is a reliable Wi-Fi connection. Labs are well-equipped with all the necessary tools. Our classrooms are nice and air-conditioned. While the department does not have a library, there is a common library that has around 5,000 to 6,000 books specifically for civil engineering. Hostel facilities are decent. Most of the buildings are a bit old. Sports are available in the hostel include volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, carrom, and cricket. The mess serves good food, and the menu is decided by students. Each hostel has two mess secretaries responsible for monitoring the quality of the meals. Overall, I would rate the food in my hostel with 3.5 out of 5.
Faculty: Our faculty members are well-qualified and have the proper experience to teach. Since this is an autonomous college, the university sets the exam dates and schedule. The college environment is good for studying. A minimum score of 40% is required to pass exams. Our course has a lab that prepares students to work in the industry. Semester examinations are not very difficult. We need to study to pass semester exams.
Other: I chose this course because I want to prepare for government examinations. New construction is needed in the civil department. Every year, there is a cultural fest known as Adhyay. For extracurricular activities there is a club where students can join. The campus size is very big. It is located in Kanpur's main city so there is no connectivity problem.

B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering - Batch of 2027
4.6
5Placements3Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
This is a very good college and provides value for money especially in technology branch placements.
Placements: Generally, position of senior executive is given to freshers. In our branch, almost 100% of eligible students are placed, but students who have backlogs are not eligible for some companies. The highest salary package offered by international companies is 20 LPA, while the domestic salary package is 12 LPA, offered by Reliance Industries Pvt. Ltd. Almost 100% of students from our course, B. Tech in Chemical Engineering, have received internships this month.
Infrastructure: Courses are good, but a few hostels are very old, and their condition is average. However, hostel property provides a good environment, with cleanliness and proper guidelines followed. Security is also provided. Campus has a strict no-ragging policy, and a ragging committee ensures there is no room for such activities. Each hostel has a mess secretary, and the menu is decided by students of the respective hostels.
Faculty: Faculty members are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Their teaching qualifications are also good, and teaching environment is excellent. Syllabus for our Technology branch is quite old, although some updates have been made. However, there are still a few glitches.
Other: Our college has a variety of clubs and committees. Students with respective talents can join relevant clubs and showcase their skills.

B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering - Batch of 2022
2.6
3Placements1Infrastructure2Faculty3Crowd & Campus Life4Value for Money
Average college, limited options. Not as good as top NITs and IIITs, but still okay.
Placements: Half of the students in the Computer Science and Information Technology departments secured attractive packages averaging 15+ LPA. The remaining students also received placements, albeit not as lucrative. The top-tier packages were predominantly offered off campus to high-performing students. The placements in the Chemical Engineering department were satisfactory, while the departments of Paint and Electronics had moderate success. Other departments did not fare as well.
Infrastructure: The buildings are constructed in a subpar manner, with an age that rivals that of the college itself, which is over a century old. It is possible that some of these buildings are truly that ancient. The condition of the hostels is also unsatisfactory, as they are old and in a state of disrepair. However, the first year boys hostel is passable, while the others are not up to par. Unfortunately, I cannot provide any insight on the girls hostel due to my limited knowledge. It is worth noting that the girls hostel is situated within a distinct boundary.
Faculty: The curriculum is focused on academics and is outdated. It has only recently incorporated subjects like ML and AI, but the quality of these additions remains uncertain due to their recent introduction. Therefore, the curriculum may not be at the forefront of the latest fields, but rather emphasizes traditional studies.
Other: When entering an IT position, it is important to understand that you will need to independently acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.

B.Tech. in Chemical Technology (Paint Technology) - Batch of 2027

4Placements2Infrastructure3Faculty3Crowd & Campus Life3Value for Money
Overall, the college is average.
Placements: The placement of the college is approximately 84%. The highest package in Paint Technology is 12 LPA, the lowest is 4 LPA, and the average is approximately 8 LPA. There is approximately 100% internship placement. Top companies include Asian Paints, Berger Paints, Maruti Suzuki, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the hostel is not so good; it's overall below average. The Wi-Fi does not run regularly, and the classrooms are overall average. The hostel facilities are not too good, and the Wi-Fi range and speed are approximately 5 to 6 Mbps. Games like volleyball are available.
Faculty: Some teachers are good, but some are not knowledgeable about their subject. The curriculum is relevant, and the semester exams are not very difficult. The passing percentage is about 5 CGPA. Some teachers are very helpful; they assist with studies and are very supportive.
Other: The best course in the technology branch is Paint Technology.

B.Tech. in Chemical Technology (Food Technology) - Batch of 2028

Insights on HBTU B.Tech Food Technology: Course, Campus, and Opportunities.
Placements: The percentage of students placed is 80-85%. The highest package is 19-25 lacs per annum. The lowest package is 3-4 lacs per annum. The average package is 6-7 lacs per annum. Top recruiting companies are Nestlé, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, ITC Foods, Britannia, Amul, Parle, Dabur, Unilever, and Tata Chemical. The percentage of students with internships is 70-80%. Internship companies are Nestlé, PepsiCo, Britannia, ITC Foods, Parle, Amul, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), etc.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure and facilities for B.Tech Food Technology: The infrastructure is good, with separate labs for different code and departments. Each department has its own specialized labs to facilitate practical learning. The campus provides Wi-Fi, but there is a data limit of 3-4 GB. After reaching the limit, further usage is restricted. The Wi-Fi is also monitored for websites visited at times. Hostel and Campus Facilities: Hostel Quality: The hostel quality is good, providing clean rooms and necessary amenities. Food Quality: The food in the hostel is considered good and meets the basic nutritional needs; also, there are a lot of different items on the menu. Medical Facilities: The campus has medical facilities available to handle minor health issues. Sports and Games: A variety of general sports, like football and cricket games, are available for students on campus.
Faculty: Teachers' Helpfulness, Qualifications, and Knowledge: The teachers in the B.Teach Food Technology department are helpful and qualified. Most of them hold a Ph.D. or are in the process of completing one. They are knowledgeable and provide valuable insights during lectures. Teaching Quality: The teaching quality is good, with a balanced approach of theoretical and practical knowledge to help students grasp the concepts effectively. Course Curriculum: The course curriculum is a bit backdated, around 3-4 years old, but still relevant. It does prepare students for the industry to some extent, although some updates could make it more current with recent trends. Semester Exam Difficulty and Pass Percentage: The semester exams are moderately difficult, and students need to have a solid understanding of the concepts. The pass percentage is around 80%.
Other: I chose this course because, based on my rank, it was the only option available to me. However, I would recommend aiming for better branches if you can, as they tend to have improved placement opportunities. I do wish the events and fests could improve to provide more exposure and opportunities for students to engage. On the positive side, the campus surroundings are great, providing a peaceful and conducive environment for studying. There are also scholarships available, like the UP Scholarship worth 60,000, which can be accessed if you qualify. Extracurricular activities are abundant, with many seniors actively involved, offering a chance to grow outside of academics as well.

B.Tech. in Information Technology - Batch of 2025

3Placements2Infrastructure4Faculty3Crowd & Campus Life1Value for Money
2024 scenario in HBTU Kanpur.
Placements: This year's 2024 batch is just like a nightmare for on-campus placement, as 20 students in my branch couldn't get the placement. If we see the highest placement, then there is one senior who got a placement of 33 LPA off-campus in Zeta, and he also got 22 LPA on-campus in Zscaler, too. The rest of the data will be there after the list comes. This year, TCS is the god for students; it was the only hope due to the recession in the market. Very few companies are visiting on campus.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are average; you can expect more in the future. Of. Facility, as there are labs that damaged computers around the year when HBTTU was built (1921). The library is pretty good, but the classrooms are just AVG. Food in a mess is poison. Here, I can use any other word. The canteen is below AVG. Cricket has a very good culture in our college. If. You are looking for a future in cricket, and you can sure shoot.
Faculty: I have an advice: they should update the syllabus as of now. Companies are introducing new teaching so students should learn. About that in. not just outside the college, but they upgrade the curriculum. Teachers are pretty supportive here; they are very good in their domain.
Other: HBTU is very famous as it is the oldest technical. University of. Up, that's why I chose it, but it is not worth the money by any chance. Fests are good; they just change the environment of the college, but this year they postponed the fest, and it is possible that this year there won't be any.
