Shiv Nadar School Organises Educational Boot Camp To Create Awareness About Clean Energy

December 21, 2021: On the topic ‘Let Us Celebrate the Sun,’ Shiv Nadar School, Noida (a not-for-profit venture of the Shiv Nadar Foundation in K12 education) concluded its virtual scientific awareness event, Educational Boot Camp (EBC) 2021. The month-long camp is intended to raise awareness about the sun's power and sustainable energy as the globe grapples with the growing threat of climate change.

Following the success of a previous event, the Energy Boot Camp in 2020, the school arranged the EBC '21 as part of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programme in partnership with the Indian Youth Nuclear Society (IYNS). The goal of this year's event was to bring students from various disciplines (not just Science) together to debate solar energy, climate change, and sustainability. The camp, which began on November 15, comprised inter-school competitions, technical paper writing workshops, and panel discussions to learn about the sun from a historical and scientific standpoint. Shreya Ranjan of Shiv Nadar School Noida was chosen for the technical paper presentation and awarded the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Fellowship from IYNS for her paper ‘Jantar Mantar - Center of Ancient Astronomy.’

According to Vinita Sharat, the STEAM Coordinator at Shiv Nadar School, the virtual visit to Nehru Planetarium in New Delhi and the world's largest Fusion Reactor at ITER in France, where students got first-hand experience of what they learned in class about fusion experiments, was the highlight of the boot camp. India is one of 35 countries that have partnered with France on the ITER, an ambitious project that would pave the way for a new, infinite source of renewable energy.

'Cosmology and the Future of Astronomy,' 'Sun and the Circadian Rhythm,' 'Surya Siddhanta,' and 'Astrophysics and the Universe' were among the themes discussed during the three-day conclusion from December 16 to 18. Students, along with famous scientists, professionals, and panelists from other professions, debated the difficulties ahead in a knowledge podcast titled ‘Sun – today and tomorrow?’ while going deep into comprehending the features of Sun in the present day.
