Actor Sudheer Babu, Actress Mrinalini Rao, Director Harsha Vardhan,  Associate Director Vishnu Vardhan, Cinematographer Surender Reddy at Woxsen University’s Kaleido Film Festival

September 29, 2023: Woxsen University's School of Design in Kamkole presented the first Kaleido Film Festival under the theme "Where everyone's a kalakaar." This ostentatious festival explored the complexities of Indian cinema and its influence on society, providing a highly sought-after venue for visual communication students to interact with seasoned directors and actors, demonstrate their filmmaking skills, and get insightful criticism. With the introduction of OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar as well as the growth of digital content creators, bloggers, and influencers, there is a lot of content floating around, according to chief guest and cinematographer Surender Reddy. One must always adapt to the times in order to flourish as a filmmaker, effectively compete, and leave a lasting impression. With the amazing infrastructure and exposure that Woxsen is giving you, I believe you are in the perfect position to begin your career in film.

Film is a potent medium that may inspire strong feelings, spark debates, and have a significant social impact. It is not merely for enjoyment. The ambition to explore the many elements of filmmaking and its capacity to influence, entertain, and inspire led to the creation of the Kaleido Film Festival. The festival is like a brilliant kaleidoscope where tiny activities reflect the glass beads inside in different colours, and participants, known as "Kalakaars," serve as mirrors that make the festival come to life. The attractiveness of Kaleido depends on its Kalakaars, much as the patterns of a kaleidoscope depend on mirrors.

The School of Design's visual communication students were given the theme "Boundless" for their short films. These aspiring filmmakers skillfully translated the concept in a variety of stories. One movie, for instance, looked at the educational system's limitations metaphorically, showing how people might get constrained by conventional norms before discovering freedom in poetry. In a different story, the protagonist was constrained by an unfulfilling career but ultimately found infinite freedom by pursuing his passion for art.

Through panel talks, a short film competition, workshops on screenwriting and colour grading, and other activities, the film festival promised to be a vibrant celebration of film as an art form.

Woxsen University Initiates Rural Entrepreneurship Project

October 14, 2022: With a strong emphasis on ethics, responsibility, and sustainability, Woxsen University has started a new initiative called "Rural Entrepreneurship" that strives to improve the rural community surrounding the university.

The initiative was started by a group of Woxsen University students, faculty, and non-academic staff members under the direction of Dr Bhairab Chandra, School of Business, who also served as project leader. Major problems faced by local communities include a lack of understanding of where to get investments and difficulty identifying training techniques that suit their needs.

The area of interests among the community members have been brought to their attention after a thorough conversation between the Rural Entrepreneurship team and the rural community in the Woxsen area. They consist of starting a dairy farm, getting professional DJ training, opening a general store, and other things.

The Project Team has spoken with a widow who became a tailor in order to manage the household and provide for her two children. With the few resources she has, she is educating six to ten local girls in tailoring on her one sewing machine at home, giving them jobs. Even if a few modernised machines will simplify her labour and help her grow a firm, securing a bank loan is difficult for them.

The principal of Govt. High School Kamkole, from whom the rural entrepreneurship team obtained information on deserving pupils, was also met by the team. These students are receiving training at the Woxsen University campus as part of the initiative on the topics of entrepreneurship, incubation, and fundraising. It's interesting to note that different artistic traits were discovered in the participants, which prompted a redesign and reorientation of the action plan toward not only core entrepreneurship but artistic endeavours as well.
