Delhi University students must not worry about attendance to sit for the exam. According to the latest development, Delhi High Court clearly stated that the University of Delhi cannot expect the students to have a minimum of 70 per cent attendance in order to appear for exams. It also stated that it is not possible as the DU itself was not able to take classes for entire periods prescribed for the course.
According to the tweet posted by the reputed media agency PTI, the Delhi HC said, “Delhi High Court says Delhi University cannot expect students to have 70 per cent minimum attendance to sit for exams if it was not taking classes for the entire period prescribed for a course.” Check the tweet given below:
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus followed by the nationwide lockdown imposed in order to contain the virus led to the closure of all the academic institutions including universities, schools, colleges, etc. The educational institutions are still not open. However, various ways such as online classes, classes via television, SMS, etc. are being explored by schools, colleges and universities. The COVID-19 outbreak created hindrance in the academic calendar. Many students vacated hostels and went back to their hometowns. Many even complained about connectivity issues and lack of internet while attending classes online. Considering all the scenarios, the Delhi HC passed the statement against the minimum attendance criteria in order to appear for the exams. It is expected that the higher education institutions would begin the new session from September onwards. However, the classes would be conducted online until normalcy is attained.
