All about Tourism Management programme at Prestige Institute of Management, Gwalior

What is a Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM) course?

Scope of Bachelor of Tourism Management programme:

The course of BTM qualified the graduates to take over specialist and managerial positions in the tourism and travel industry so as to study further. The programme includes all the core topics and additional materials required to hone the abilities needed in the broad tourism industry. Tourism management involves projects related to the tourism and hospitality industries and different aspects of business management.

Different areas where a graduate of Tourism Management can work are:

1. Tour Manager: The main role of a Tour Manager is to ensure that the tour of the tourists goes as smoothly as possible and they enjoy themselves during their holiday. A tour manager must hold language skills and understanding about climate, customs, and tourist tendencies. They should also possess networking and customer service skills. Some details of their job profile are:

  • Accompanying tourist groups (native or foreign);
  • Welcoming guests/tourists and arranging for their food, itineraries, and destinations;
  • Resolving logistical problems and coordination with travel agents;
  • Checking tickets and other relevant documents, as well as attending to special requirements such as seat allocations, passport or immigration issues;
  • Dealing with emergencies.

2. Hotel Manager: Hotel Managers are expected to know the ins and outs of any issue related to the hotel. They are responsible for hotel management practices, and relevant laws and guidelines. The function of a hotel manager is to manage employees and day to day operations of a hotel. Their management is inclusive of front-of-house reception, food and beverage operations, budgeting, and financial management. Some details of their job:

  • To analyse and interpret financial information;
  • Executing efficient marketing procedures to promote the hotel’s services;
  • Monitoring sales and profits;
  • Inspecting services and property regularly, by enforcing strict compliance with health and safety norms.
