Amid the lockdown, IIT Kharagpur preponed its summer break to prevent further loss of studies after the lockdown period.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, came forward to help the students and teachers who are still staying inside the institute’s hostel. In an official notice, the institute stated that students and project staff residing in the hostel must not worry as the accommodation facility and related services in the halls and on-campus will continue.

Amid the lockdown, IIT Kharagpur preponed its summer break to prevent further loss of studies after the lockdown period. The institute requested students and staff not to return to the campus until further notice. This raised concerns among the residing staff and students regarding the services they avail in the hostel. Clarifying the concerns the institute stated, ‘in continuation to the above referred Administrative Notification dated April 1, 2020, regarding the Summer Vacation, it is clarified that the students/project staffs who are staying in Halls at present will continue to stay till the situation of COVID-19 becomes normal. It is further clarified that the mess and other Institute facilities in the Halls and Campus will continue during the summer vacation or till the normalcy of the COVJD-19 situation, whichever is earlier. The Chairman, Hall Management Centre is requested to bring it to the notice of the students who are presently staying in the halls through respective Wardens.’

The world is going through severe health and economic crisis due to the global pandemic, COVID-19. The control the novel coronavirus spread in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed a nationwide lockdown for 21 days i.e. until April 14. State borders are sealed, transportation is unavailable, academic institutions and workplaces are shut, and people are asked to stay inside their homes and practice social distancing.
