IIT Kharagpur Placement 2024: Over 1,000 offers in 3 days, Highest package stood at INR 2.14 crore

IIT Kharagpur’s Phase-I placement drive commenced with over 750 offers on Day 1, which included opportunities from some of the most prestigious companies worldwide, such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Capital One, and DE Shaw.

IIT Kharagpur Placement 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has kicked off its placement drive for the academic batch of 2024-25 with an impressive start. By December 3, 2024, the institute achieved a significant milestone, securing over 1,000 placement offers within just three days of the Phase-I placement process. The drive, which began on December 1, has seen active participation from leading companies across various sectors, offering a wide range of roles to IIT Kharagpur students.

A Strong Start: 800+ Offers by Day 2

By the end of Day 2, the institute had already recorded more than 800 offers, including pre-placement offers (PPOs) from organizations around the globe. Several companies that had visited the campus for internships earlier in the year, particularly in July 2024, also participated in the ongoing placement process. These companies are now extending full-time offers to students, reflecting their satisfaction with the interns’ performance. The placement interviews are being conducted in a hybrid format, with many companies opting for in-person interactions with students.

Diverse Opportunities Across Multiple Sectors

IIT Kharagpur's placement drive for 2024-25 has seen an array of companies from high-frequency trading, software, analytics, finance, banking, and consulting, offering roles to students. In addition to these sectors, the core engineering field has also witnessed significant participation from leading firms. The Career Development Centre (CDC) at IIT Kharagpur has played a key role in facilitating the process, maintaining a global presence by securing 20 international offers so far.

Rajib Maity, chairperson of CDC, expressed his gratitude for the administration’s continued support and the efforts of the placement committee. He praised the involvement of the vice chairpersons of CDC and the vice president of the Student Gymkhana, highlighting their efforts to support students throughout the ongoing placement drive, which is expected to continue until the end of the academic year.

Impressive Salary Packages on the Rise

The IIT Kharagpur placement season has already set high expectations with impressive salary offers. As of Day 2, the highest package recorded stands at an impressive Rs 2.14 crore. In total, 9 students have secured offers with salary packages exceeding Rs 1 crore. These opportunities span multiple sectors, including software, analytics, consulting, and core engineering roles.

While the IITs have decided not to disclose the highest salary packages for the 2024-25 placement season to reduce psychological pressure on students, IIT Kharagpur has announced the highest package so far, setting a benchmark for the upcoming phases.

IIT Kharagpur’s Phase-I placement drive commenced with over 750 offers on Day 1, which included opportunities from some of the most prestigious companies worldwide, such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Capital One, and DE Shaw. VK Tewari, the Director of IIT Kharagpur, praised the strong start to the placement season, saying, “The influx of companies, even in a competitive job market, reflects the academic legacy of IIT Kharagpur. The overwhelming response from top-tier organizations is a testament to the quality of education and the hard work of our students.”
