The office of the Dean of Academic Affairs (DoAA) stated that the institute suspends all the activities which require the presence of students like tests, classes, examinations, events and projects until May 14.

According to the official website of IIT Guwahati, the institute is conducting theory classes online since April 4 until the academic activities resume again on campus.

Meanwhile, IIT-Guwahati is actively participating to assist the government in the containment process of the COVID-19 virus. The institute recently developed two technologies – a UVC LED system to disinfect areas and a fabric to prevent the harmful virus from touching the body. The technologies are created by a research team lead by Senthilmurugan Subbiah of the Department of Chemical/Engineering.

According to the institute, the UVC system is a proven technology to sanitize the microorganism infected non-porous surface. The team is also working on to improve its design by integrating UVC with an ozone system such that surface with porous nature also can be sanitized.

IIT Guwahati also developed a prototype of a face shield/ mask following the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to curb the spread of COVID-19 virus. Supradip Das of the Department of Design led the team during the development of the protective masks.
