The components of internal examination consisting of 30 marks are based on the following:

  • 20 marks of mid-semester test which was conducted by the institute/ college
  • 10 marks are awarded by the instructors based on assignments, seminars, attendance, quizzes and practical work etc.

After adding the internal marks with the marks obtained by the students in University examination, the marks will be converted to a letter grade as per the following:

Marks Obtained

  • Students failing in this examination need to appear for Remedial University Examination during mid-semester exams slots
  • A student can have a maximum of 4 backlogs/ FF grades pending at any point of time

The performance of candidates is indicated in the grade card by a “Semester Performance Index” (SPI). Each grade letter has a corresponding grade point, which is mentioned in the table below:

Calculation for the SPI is as follows:

If C(i) is the credit of a course (i) and G(i) is the grade point of that course, SPI will be calculated by the given formula:

SPI Calculation

Note: The sum is over “n” courses taken during a semester.

Similarly, Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) is also calculated in the same way. Formula remains the same but for the sum being over all the courses taken in the current semester as well as in the preceding semesters.

Note: In calculating CPI, any fail grade which the student might have earned but had subsequently passed will be replaced by the passing grade in that subject.
