Hostel Facilities in University Maharani College, University of Rajasthan has well-maintained hostels for their students and every hostel has its own unique culture. The University of Rajasthan has a total of 19 hostels under its name, out of which, two are situated at the University of Maharani College at present, namely Annie Besant Hostel and Mother Teresa Hostel.
Annie Besant Hostel
The Annie Besant Hostel is one of the oldest hostels under the University of Rajasthan Constituent Colleges. It was inaugurated 69 years ago, by the then Governor of Rajasthan. Annie Besant Hostel has more than 100 rooms at avail.
Mother Teresa Hostel
Several years later, in 2001, Mother Teresa Hostel came into existence as an extension to Annie Besant Hostel due to an increase in the number of applicants. Mother Teresa Hostel was inaugurated by the then Governor of Rajasthan, Shree Anshuman Singh with Prof KL Kamal, Vice-Chancellor, the University of Rajasthan on February 22, 2001. The hostel has around 60 rooms.

Currently, both Annie Besant Hostel and Mother Teresa Hostel have been combined for a better living experience. According to University Prospectus 2022, two more hostels have been constructed under MADA and will be available for housing students in the new academic session.
Seats Available in Hostels
Presently, both Annie Besant Hostel and Mother Teresa Hostel combined, are housing 360 female students from different disciplines. 50 seats are reserved for Arts students and 25 each for Commerce and Science (Mathematics and Biology) students, for each year of graduation. The remaining 60 seats have a pre-defined division among Sports Quota, Home Science, Management and Complete Science streams. For students who are taking admission in self-financed courses, the availability of seats depends on the vacant seats in their respective hostels.
Hostel Admission Process
Merit-based Application Mode: Online admissions in the hostels are done on a merit basis. Students who have met the University of Maharani cut-off for their specific course and are done with the admission procedure are eligible to apply for admission to the hostel. Application forms for hostels are filled online and a hard copy of the same is to be signed by HOD/ Principal and submitted at the Head Warden’s Office. If any student fails in the main examination or does not appear for the examination, even in compulsory subjects, he or she will not be eligible for readmission to the hostel that year.
Hostel Fee
After being shortlisted, students have to submit an annual fee of INR 12,000 to INR 14,000 and a monthly fee of INR 1,800 for mess facilities. (It is noteworthy, that the annual fee might differ according to the percentage obtained by the student in the previous academic year). A special percentage of seats is reserved for SC/ST, OBC and EWS category students. If a student has taken an official leave in a particular time slot, (i.e. from the 1st of a month to the 10th, from the 10th of a month to the 20th or from the 20th of a month to the 30th) then a percentage of the monthly mess fee is redacted. The hostel offers comfortable accommodation to its students. Two female students have to share a room with a separate bed, study table, and closet for each.
Facilities at Hostels
The management of the University and its hostel, continuously works on redefining the means of a healthy and hygienic residence for the students within the hostels. Both Annie Besant Hostel and Mother Teresa Hostel are well facilitated with spacious and ventilated rooms, RO plants for safe and clean drinking water, geysers in the bathrooms, renovated guest rooms and separate dustbins for dry and wet waste etc.
Mess Facilities: The modernised mess was inaugurated by the Vise Chancellor of the University of Rajasthan, on April 12, 2015. It is the first of its kind among all the other hostels under the University of Rajasthan. The mess is designed with food-safety features, to provide safe and hygienic food to the students with a smokeless kitchen, keeping in mind the health of the cooks as well.
Events: Five major events are organised every year within the hostels, namely a Welcome party, a Thanksgiving party, Woman’s day celebration, Youth Festival and a Farewell party with AB night. During Welcome Party and Farewell Party, the students can participate in Miss Fresher and Miss Farewell contests. The Youth Festival Basant is an inter- hostel annual fest, where students from different hostels of the University of Rajasthan and its Constituent Colleges, compete in literature, fine arts and performing arts. Other workshops for the overall development of the hostellers are also organised from time to time.
Security and Transportation: The hostels are well-secured with transport available from just outside the main gate, for anywhere in the city.
