JNU VC said that the entrance exam, which is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), would be conducted whenever it was safe for the students to take the test.
JMI Admissions 2021: Jamia Millia Islamia recently announced that it is planning to conduct its tentative entrance test on June 22, the admit cards for which were received by several students on June 2. However, the situation is different from JNU. At Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar issued a statement saying that the entrance exams could be delayed.
Jamia Millia Islamia PRO, Ahmed Azeem, however, clarified that June 22 to conduct the entrance test was a tentative date, and the university might change it depending on the COVID-19 condition and the restrictions imposed in Delhi in order to contain the virus spread. "We do not rely on CBSE marks anyway as we have an entrance test where the eligibility is often as low as 50%," he added.
Considering the health risks involved in conducting exams amid the increasing numbers of novel coronavirus cases, JNU VC said that the entrance exam, which is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), would be conducted whenever it was safe for the students to take the test.
Welcoming the government's decision to not conduct CBSE 12th Exams 2021, Kumar said, "The decision is pragmatic and rational considering the pandemic is a once in a century occurrence. The health and safety of the students are of paramount importance." He added “if the entrance was delayed and admissions pushed to a later date, the university would adjust its academic calendar to take care of the lost time. Kumar suggested, for undergraduate admission based on CBSE 12th results, universities could devise appropriate procedures.”
