I have learned to deal with stressful situations without losing my calm: Nikita Thakur

3 mins readUpdated on Jan 3, 2020 14:40 IST

In my early school days, I wanted to become a doctor and pursue my career in the medical field. I took Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) stream in Class XI-XII. My mother wanted me to choose Commerce but I was determined to opt Science. But due to some reasons, I couldn’t crack NEET to enter the medical career. I didn’t want to waste my year, so I took admission in Microbiology honours, as I wanted to stay connected to the medical domain.

However, later on, corporate life fascinated me more and I realized that joining management course would be the right fit for me. That’s how I ended up in JIMS Kalkaji - Jagannath International Management School to do Post Graduate Diploma in Management (International Business). I read about the college on various platforms, and I knew some students who were studying in the college. Choosing JIMS Kalkaji to pursue PGDM IB was a good decision because I liked the course curriculum. Even the faculties of the college are very supporting. They are always ready to guide you in every possible way they can.

As my undergraduate college had hectic timings and strict attendance schedule, it was not possible for me to join coaching centres on weekends to prepare for the MBA entrance exams. Therefore I enrolled myself in various online practice tests, so that I could practice questions as per the format of the entrance examinations. I studied Quantitative Techniques from the book of Arun Sharma. I used to practice questions whenever I was free. As I was a Biology students, I practiced Quantitative Techniques more. I gave tests weekly to check my scores and get aware of the areas in which I needed to improve. I then registered for various MBA entrance examinations like CAT and CMAT. On the basis of my score in CMAT, and my performance in GD/PI, I got selected in JIMS Kalkaji. I had qualified the GD/PI of various colleges in Delhi NCR, but out of those, I found JIMS Kalkaji the best.

The course timings for PGDM IB is usually 11 am-5:30 pm. I like to attend all the classes because missing class is not worth it. But when you are a part of organising team of any event, you have to miss the classes. JIMS Kalkaji is very strict with attendance and a minimum of 75 per cent attendance has to be maintained throughout the trimester. JIMS Kalkaji has various student clubs like HR club, Finance club and Marketing club. It also has different cells like e-cell and institutional innovation cell. I am a part of Finance Club and Institutional Innovation cell. I have helped in organising various seminars and budget discussion panel which made me more confident. Inter class competitions are very frequent where the activities are debate, poetry, poster (digital/handmade). These activities at JIMS Kalkaji focus on grooming the students in such a way that they are fit to adjust in the corporate world and thus train them for that lifestyle. Every week, a guest lecture is organised where directors or managers of different multinational companies and domestic companies provide quality knowledge to students and promote interaction to clear all the doubts related to the topic. As far as my experience is considered, I have found positive changes in my behaviour and I have learned to deal with stressful situations without losing my calm. I have become more patient and I am looking forward to more growth in my actions.
