Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has put up a public notice stating that the affiliation of six colleges has been withdrawn from the university from the 2021-22 academic year. Students studying in these colleges will be re-allotted to other affiliated colleges of the university.

Colleges whose affiliation has been withdrawn

  1. Alpha College of Engineering, Bengaluru
  2. Shaikh College of Engineering, Belagavi
  3. Islamiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru
  4. Ekalavya Institute of Technology, Chamarajanagar
  5. Sri Vinayaka Institute of Technology, KGF
  6. BTL Institute of Technology and Management, Bengaluru

The notice from the university read, “The process/notification for the re-allotment process will be notified separately. Aspiring students seeking fresh admission to these colleges are advised to take note of the same. If any student proceeds further with admission to these institutes, the university will not be responsible for it.”

Some requested for closure, others didn't apply for affiliation: VTU Registrar

When Shikha contacted AS Desphande, Registrar (Administration), VTU, he said, a decision to this effect was taken at the recent Executive Council meeting. Two colleges had requested for closure, while others did not apply for affiliation. The students who had enrolled in various programmes in these colleges will be shifted by the university.”

When asked about the reason for closure, Desphande said, “Some colleges were not finding it convenient to run the colleges probably. Two colleges had opted for closure on their own. They said they could not run the institutes, maybe due to poor admissions or financial issues.”

VTU is a collegiate public state university in Belgaum, Karnataka, established by the Government of Karnataka in 1998. It offers over 10 degree and diploma programmes across its seven departments, including aerospace engineering, applied science, civil engineering, computer science engineering, among others.
