On Distance BTech CSE Colleges in India 2024: Fees, Admission, Courses, Placements

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for admission to distance BTech CSE colleges in India?

A:

Additionally, they must achieve a minimum aggregate score of 60 percent in these subjects combined.

Q:   Are distance learning courses in Engineering any good in India?

A:

As per AICTE and UGC confirmed that B Tech Distance is not a valid course. Universities of India are not approved to run such courses in their college academics. The Supreme court ordered that without AICTE approval, no university can run B Tech courses due to many different reasons, including its credibility, recognition, and lack of practical skill development.

Q:   How much time in a day/week should I spend to study to complete the distance BE/BTech programme?

A:

The required study time can vary significantly depending on Program format and schedule:

  • Part-time programs: These typically involve evening or weekend classes for 2-3 hours per session, requiring additional time for assignments and self-study. Expect dedicating around 15-20 hours per week to stay on track.
  • Online BTech. with on-campus sessions: These might have online lectures with mandatory lab sessions or workshops spread across weekends or specific days. Depending on the frequency and intensity of in-person sessions, you might need 10-15 hours per week for online work and additional time for on-campus activities.
  • Upskilling courses: Online courses provide greater flexibility, but self-motivated learning requires setting your own schedule. Aim for daily study sessions of at least 1-2 hours to make consistent progress.

Q:   Is Computer Science Engineering difficult as compared to other engineering fields?

A:

No, Computer Science engineering is not as difficult as compared to other engineering fields. More or less Computer Science engineering is almost same to the other engineering fields because of the overlapping syllabus of CSE with IT branch and software engineering branch and some of the subjects in CSE also overlaps with electronics communication engineering and electrical engineering.

In India, for the first year, the syllabus of engineering is almost the same for every branch there can only be a difference in labs of core subjects. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is an academic programme at some universities that combines aspects of both computer Science and computer engineering programmes. Computer Science programmes typically centers primarily around theory and software, with only some hardware, upper division courses tend to allow a lot of freedom to specialise in software and theory related areas (e.g. algorithms, artificial intelligence, cryptography/security, graphics/visualization, numerical and symbolic computing, operating systems/distributed processing, software engineering).

And one more thing I need to tell you that it all depends on you whether you like CSE or not then any other engineering field because of this it all that makes difference. Ex: if you like mechanical engineering and are interested in making cars but you ended up with electronics engineering then making circuits will not make you happy or comfortable in the branch.

Q:   Do employers generally prefer regular BTech degrees or distance learning BTech degrees?

A:

In the corporate world, regular BTech degrees are generally preferred over distance learning BTech degrees for several reasons:

Quality and Credibility:

  • Regular BTech programs involve rigorous coursework, extensive lab work, and close interaction with faculty, ensuring a comprehensive and in-depth learning experience. This translates to stronger technical skills and knowledge, which are highly valued by employers.
  • Distance learning BTech programs, while potentially offering flexibility, may raise concerns about the quality of education and practical training received. The lack of hands-on lab experience and limited faculty interaction can impact the development of essential engineering skills.
  • Accreditation plays a crucial role. In India,  currently,  there are no accredited distance BTech programs. This lack of official recognition by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) can further diminish the credibility of such degrees in the eyes of employers.

Q:   Can we take a correspondence course at IITs or NITs for a BTech?

A:

No, you cannot take a correspondence course (also known as distance education) for a BTech degree at IITs or NITs  (or any other reputable institute in India) because the Supreme Court of India has ruled that BTech programs require extensive practical training, which is difficult to achieve effectively through pure distance learning. Therefore, accredited institutions offering B.Tech degrees must have a significant in-person component.

Alternatives to Consider:

  • B.Tech Distance Education from Accredited Universities: While IITs and NITs don't offer distance B.Tech, some universities do. Ensure the programme is accredited by UGC (University Grants Commission) or AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for wider recognition. However, be aware of the limitations of distance education as discussed previously.
  • Online Courses: Online platforms like NPTEL and Coursera offer high-quality engineering courses that can supplement your learning or provide specialised knowledge in specific areas.
  • M.Tech Programs (for working professionals): Some IITs and NITs offer M.Tech programs through distance education, but these are typically for working professionals who already hold a B.Tech degree.
