CSAB 2025: The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) holds CSAB counselling 2025 for candidates who do not receive any seat in JoSAA counselling based on JEE Main ranks. Such candidates have to register for CSAB counselling. CSAB counselling is of three types: CSAB North Eastern States and Some of Union Territories (NEUT); CSAB Special and CSAB Supernumerary. All three types of counselling will be based on JEE Main 2025 rank. CSAB counselling 2025 dates will be available after the JoSAA 2025 counselling is over, tentatively in June 2025 at csab.nic.in. The CSAB 2025 schedule for the NEUT round, special and supernumerary rounds will vary. First, the CSAB NEUT counselling will take place followed by the special round and lastly the supernumerary round.

The CSAB special round is held to allocate the unfilled seats of the NIT+ System after the last JoSAA round. NEUT round is especially for candidates from North-Eastern (NE) States and Union Territories (UTs) and to allocate seats across degree-level technical institutions approved by AICTE, Universities for North-Eastern (NE) States and Union Territories (UTs). The Supernumerary is only for candidates from Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and for admission to supernumerary seats in NIT Calicut, NIT Durgapur, and SVNIT Surat.

Q:   Do the JoSAA registered candidates need to fill CSAB application form separately?

A:

Yes, applicants who have registered for JoSAA counselling have to do separate registration for CSAB. The document verification of such candidates will not be conducted again for verification. JoSAA registered candidates have to pay application fee directly after login using JEE application number and password. Candidates are advised to keep payment receipt safe for admission purposes.

What is CSAB?

CSAB is Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). It conducts national-level counselling based on JEE Main scores for admission to vacant seats left after JoSAA counselling last round, called the CSAB special counselling. Other than the CSAB special counselling, there are two more counselling categories under CSAB. The details of all three types of CSAB counselling can be checked below:

CSAB Special Round: The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) holds the special CSAB counselling to allocate the unfilled seats of the NIT+ System after the last JoSAA round. Candidates desirous of participating in the CSAB special rounds are required to do a fresh registration.

CSAB NEUT Round: This round of CSAB counselling is held for the allocation of seats to candidates of North-Eastern states and Union Territories only. The seats allocated in the CAB NEUT round include the reserved seats under the government of India scheme of “Reservation of seats in Degree Level Technical Courses for States/UTs lacking such facilities in the AICTE-approved institutions”. Seats are allotted in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy courses conducted at degree-level technical institutions approved by AICTE, Universities for North-Eastern (NE) States and Union Territories (UTs).

CSAB Supernumerary Round: This counselling round is for admission to supernumerary seats in NIT Calicut, NIT Durgapur, and SVNIT Surat. The candidates belonging to the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are eligible CSAB 2025 Supernumerary round.

Q:   Which counseling should I appear to get a good college and good branch: JoSAA, CSAB or AKTU?

A:

To secure admission in a good college and preferred branch, you should prioritize appearing for JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling if you have qualified in JEE Main or JEE Advanced. JoSAA manages the centralized seat allocation process for admissions to 110 participating institutes, including prestigious institutions like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs across India.

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) is specifically for admissions to NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs for candidates who did not participate or were not allotted a seat through JoSAA.

AKTU (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University) counseling is relevant for admissions to colleges affiliated with AKTU in Uttar Pradesh.

Considering JoSAA will give you access to a wide range of institutions and branches based on your JEE Main or JEE Advanced rank, making it a preferable choice for securing admission in a good college and desired branch.

Q:   Which rank is shown on the CSAB portal for EWS category: CRL rank or category rank?

A:

Greetings!

The CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) portal typically displays the category rank for the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category. This rank is specific to the EWS candidates and helps determine seat allocation during counseling and admissions.

CRL refers to Common Rank List (CRL). CRL is the merit list that consists of all the ranks of students who appeared for JEE Mains exam. JEE Main CRL includes name of the candidates along with their caste, gender, JEE Main all India rank and category-wise rank.

For more accurate and the latest information please visit the official portal of CSAB.

Q:   I did not register for NEUT. Is it possible to get a seat at NIT through CSAB? I belong to ST category and live in North-East India.

A:

Even if you did not register for the CSAB NEUT (North Eastern States and Union Territories) counseling and belong to the ST category, and you are from North-East India, you can get a seat in an NIT during the subsequent rounds. CSAB NEUT rounds for students applying from North-East states and UTs to decide their seat allotment in NITs alongside other participating institutes, according to JEE Main scores. You have secured 6373 rank in ST category, therefore you can apply for few NIT’s but the actual number of seats possible depends on the seat matrix. To participate, one has to register for the CSAB NEUT rounds, give the choices, and then wait for the seat allocation. Nevertheless, treat it as a proceed alert that the registration and choice-filling deadlines have probably already elapsed and therefore will require you to find out on its acceptance of late registration.

Thumbs Up IconUpvote Thumbs Down Icon

Q:   What is the lowest rank required to get a seat through JoSAA or CSAB counseling?

A:

The least rank to get a seat through JoSAA or CSAB counselling can vary greatly depending on the course and the institute. However, here are some general observations:

For JoSAA counselling, candidates can get admission in NITs, IIITs, IITs, and GFTIs1. While admission is possible up to a 3 Lacs rank in JEE Main, securing admission in popular NITs and B.Tech specializations is limited for a low rank in JEE Main (above 1,00,000).
After the conclusion of six rounds of JoSAA counselling, two special rounds are conducted by CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) for the vacant seats1. The list of vacant seats shall be displayed in advance so that the candidates can plan college options and participate in the counselling process.

Please note that these are approximate figures and the actual cutoff may vary each year based on several factors such as the difficulty level of the JEE Main exam, number of applicants, number of seats available, and the category of the candidate.

For the most accurate information, I recommend checking the official JoSAA or CSAB websites during the admission season as they release the category-wise opening and closing ranks after each round of counselling.

Q:   What would be the marks required in 12th for CSAB special round counseling 2019?

A:

There is no specific eligibility criteria for SC in CSAB Special Round. In CSAB Special Round they only ask that the candidate should have valid JEE Main rank and should meet the JoSAA eligibility criteria. Now there are no specific JoSAA eligibility criteria. Those appearing for JoSAA should satisfy the eligibility criteria of the participating institutes. Like if someone wants to get NITs, then he/she has to satisfy the JEE Mains eligibility criteria as per his/her category. I have mentioned below the eligibility criteria for CSAB Special Round counselling : Candidates should have a valid JEE Main rank and must meet up the JoSAA eligibility criteria. The candidates who didn't participate or register in JoSAA are also eligible to apply for the special round. The candidates who have failed to get a seat in JoSAA after participation will also be eligible for the special round. Candidates who got seats in JoSAA but failed to report to the allotted institute or had withdrawn their participation from counselling can also apply for special round. Those candidates who didn't opt for special round counselling after JoSAA will not be eligible to apply for CSAB Special Round.

Thumbs Up IconUpvote Thumbs Down Icon

Q:   If I pay seat acceptance fee and partial admission fee in JOSAA & participate in CSAB and got a seat? Will these fees be adjusted there?

A:

  • Cancel the allotted seat and disqualify candidates from further consideration if any submitted information is found to be incorrect, false, or fraudulent, with potential legal consequences.

CSAB NEUT 2025 Choice Filling

After successful document verification, all registered candidates must fill in their choices of branches and institutes in order of preference. Candidates are encouraged to list as many choices as possible, placing their most preferred program and institute at the top of the list and their least preferred options at the bottom.

Saving and locking the choices: After filling in their choices, candidates must SAVE their selections. Note that 'SAVING' is different from 'LOCKING.' Saved choices can be modified later, but once locked, they cannot be changed. If a candidate does not lock their choices manually before the deadline, their last saved choices will be automatically locked.

CSAB NEUT 2025 Seat Allotment

CSAB NEUT counselling seat allotment will be done in two rounds:

First Round of Seat Allotment and Online Reporting: During this step, the choices submitted by candidates will be processed centrally, and seats will be allotted based on JEE Main 2025 CRL for Engineering/Architecture or class XII marks for Pharmacy and the locked choices. Seat allotment results will be displayed on the CSAB Portal. Candidates will not receive individual allotment letters but will receive a general notification via email or SMS if allotted a seat. Candidates are advised to regularly check the CSAB Portal for updates.

After the first round of seat allotment, candidates who have been allotted a seat must complete the following to retain their seat and be considered for the second round:

  • Pay the seat allotment/acceptance fee of INR 5,000 online using Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, or State Bank of India e-challan.
  • Choose one of the following options to indicate their preference:
  • Option 1 (Float): To be considered for higher preference choices across different institutes in the next round.
  • Option 2 (Slide): To be considered for higher preference choices within the same institute in the next round.
  • Option 3 (Freeze): To accept the currently allotted seat and not be considered for higher preference choices in the subsequent round.

If a candidate selects Option III (Freeze), their allotment will be sent to the respective DTEs of States/UTs/NERIST for approval. The DTEs will verify eligibility, including domicile status, PwD status (if applicable), and PRC (if needed). Once approved, candidates can download and print the Provisional Admission Letter (PAL). They must report to the allotted institute with the PAL and required original documents according to the schedule. If a candidate opts for Option 1I (Float) or Option 2 (Slide) then, he/she has to wait for 2nd and final round of seat allotment

Second Round of Seat Allotment and Online Reporting: All registered candidates who have not been offered a seat in the 1st round as well as those who have opted for Option 1 or Option 2 will be eligible for the 2nd and final round of seat allotment. The second round of seat allotment will be made against vacant seats available after the first round of allotment and seats falling vacant due to allotted candidates failing to perform online reporting.

Candidates who selected Option 1 or Option 2  in the first round will be allotted seats (either an upgraded choice or their original seat) after the second round of seat allotment. The respective DTEs of States/UTs/NERIST will then verify eligibility and approve the allotted seat. Once approved, candidates can download and print the Provisional Admission Letter (PAL). They must report to the allotted institute with the PAL and necessary original documents according to the schedule.

Q:   What is NEUT round in CSAB counselling?

A:

NEUT round of CSAB counselling is specifically for allocating seats to candidates from North-Eastern states and Union Territories. The seats available in the CAB NEUT round include those reserved under the Government of India scheme for "Reservation of Seats in Degree Level Technical Courses for States/UTs Lacking Such Facilities in AICTE-Approved Institutions." Seats are allocated in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Pharmacy courses offered at AICTE-approved degree-level technical institutions and universities in North-Eastern states and Union Territories.

Q:   My CRL rank 423723 and OBC (NCL) rank is 158234. Can I get a seat in CSAB Counselling for Civil branch?

A:

CRL Rank: 423723: It is the rank in the Common Rank List; this will be taken into consideration for the general category seats.

OBC (NCL) Rank: 158234: This is your rank in the Other Backward Classes category.

  CSAB Counselling and Seat Allocation

In CSAB counselling, your CRL rank is considered primarily for seat allocation. While the OBC rank holds significance in reservation benefits, it doesn't affect the competition in its totality.

The Civil Engineering seat through CSAB counselling is hard to attain with a rank of 423723 in the CRL. In general, there is pretty tough competition for Civil Engineering; such a rank would lower your chances to only the lower-ranked institutes or less popular places.

Though the OBC (NCL) rank might turn out relatively better than the general category, considering the competition and cut-off trends, it is not given much weightage.

Q:   What will happen to the seat I've allocated in JoSAA if I participate in CSAB. Will we have to withdraw from JoSAA and re-admit in csab?

A:

No. You don't need to surrender the seat allotted in JoSAA round. While participating in Special Round, the seat allotted in JoSAA round will remain safe if you don't get a seat in Special Round and will be forfeited if you are allotted a seat in the Special Round.

Q:   I have 42300 rank in JEE Mains. I have not deposited CSAB fees. Can I still participate in the counselling?

A:

Yes, you can.

Acceptance of seat in  JOSSA round has nothing to do with CSAB round. You can surely sit in CSAB special round.

Last year my brother got NIT jalandhar EEE in 7th round. Then he went to NIT jalandhar for paying initial fees and giving documents.

Then he sat in CSAB special rounds and got NIT delhi ECE in round 2.

Hence, he accepted the seat and his fees in NIT jalandhar was transferred to NIT delhi along with other documents.

CSAB 2025 Supernumerary Counselling Process

Check the various stages involved in the supernumerary counselling process below.

 CSAB Supernumerary Counselling Process

CSAB Supernumerary Counselling Process

CSAB Supernumerary Online Registration 2025

All eligible candidates must register online through the CSAB portal at csab.nic.in according with the provided schedule. Please note that prior registration in JoSAA or any CSAB Special Round is not valid for the CSAB 2025 Supernumerary Round.

  • Eligible candidates are permitted to register only once on the CSAB Supernumerary portal.
  • Candidates should log in using their JEE (Main) 2025 Application Number and the Password from JEE (Main) 2025 or the updated Password from JEE Advanced, JoSAA 2025, or CSAB Special Round, whichever is most recent.

For candidates whose documents were not verified in the NIT+ System during JoSAA or CSAB Special Rounds, the following updates can be made during online registration:

  • Only Indian Nationals are eligible for the CSAB Supernumerary Round.
  • Gender can be updated from any to any.
  • The State of Eligibility (the location where Class XII or its equivalent was first taken) can be updated from any to any.

CSAB Supernumerary Choice Filling and Locking 2025

All successfully registered candidates must submit new choices for academic programs.

  • Choices previously filled during JoSAA or any CSAB Special Rounds are considered null and void. Therefore, candidates must carefully fill in and frequently save their new choices during the registration period.
  • Candidates should lock their choices after finalizing the list. If choices are not manually locked by the candidate, they will be automatically locked according to the schedule, and these choices will be used for seat allocation.
  • A printout of the locked choices can be obtained only after the choices have been locked, either by the candidate or automatically by the system.

CSAB 2025 Supernumerary Counselling Seat Allocation Result

The choices that are either finalized and locked by the candidates or automatically locked by the system will be processed according to the approved Seat Allocation Algorithm. This process will consider the candidates’ ranks and their preferences for academic programs.

Seat allocation will be based on merit, using the JEE (Main) 2025 CRL rank, for the available seats. Candidates can choose from all available branches listed in the published seat matrix. Allocation will be made for the remaining number of seats after subtracting the seats filled under the normal Home State quota from the total supernumerary seats for that Union Territory.

CSAB Supernumerary Document Uploading and SSAF Payment

All candidates who are allocated a seat in the Supernumerary Round are required to upload the following documents on the CSAB 2025 Supernumerary Round portal:

  1. Class X Certificate or Birth Certificate
  2. Class XII Mark sheet
  3. Category certificate for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS candidates
  4. UDID Card or/and PwD certificate(s) for PwD candidates
  5. State of Eligibility Proof
  6. Medical Certificate

CSAB Supernumerary Document Verification 2025

Online document verification will be conducted for all candidates who have successfully uploaded the required documents and paid the SSAF within the specified time frame. During this process, Verifying Officers may raise queries. Candidates are required to address these queries by responding online through their account on the CSAB 2025 portal within the allotted timeline.

CSAB Supernumerary Counselling 2025 Physical Reporting at Allotted Institute

All candidates whose seats are confirmed after online document verification must report physically to the allotted institute according to the schedule and instructions provided on the institute's website. They need to complete all admission procedures at that time. Candidates are required to pay any remaining institute fees upon physical reporting. The fee paid to CSAB will be transferred to the allotted institute, minus any applicable processing charges.

Q:   Can I change my category Certificate from general to OBC-NCL during CSAB counselling?

A:
There is a possibility to change your category Certificate to OBC-NCL depending upon the category mentioned in your application form and considered by JoSAA. However, you have to submit the original OBC-NCL caste Certificate at the time of document verification. The Central Seat Allocation Board CSAB conducts some special rounds (generally 2 rounds) to fill up the vacant seats of NITs, IIITs, and other colleges after JoSAA completes its process. In the previous year, candidates whose category was changed to general during document verification in JoSAA counseling rounds due to the non-submission of a valid category Certificate were allowed to change categories. The candidates were required to request a change of category via mailing to CSAB before registering for the special rounds and provide a valid category Certificate during the document verification process. If your category was general in your score card and during JOSSA counseling, then it might be slightly difficult to change categories.
