CBSE proposes to hold 12th board exams from July 15 to August 26. Final date sheet will be announced on June 1.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to hold CBSE 12th exams 2021 between July 15 and August 26. The final CBSE 12th date sheet 2021 will be released on June 1 by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal after the board holds a review meeting to access the feasibility of holding exams. The board exams will be held in offline mode.

According to media reports, the CBSE 12th result 2021 is expected to be declared in September. The final decision on the same will be made on June 1.

However, the examinations this year will not be conducted in a regular way. The board will introduce some changes in the CBSE 12th exam pattern amid the pandemic situation. The board had suggested either holding exams only for a few subjects or holding exams for a short duration of 1.5 hours instead of three hours.

In case the board decided to go ahead with holding exams for 1.5 hours instead of 3 hours, then the exam pattern will also be changed. For a 90 minutes exam, students will only be asked MCQs and very short answer-type questions to allow students to complete the exam within the timeframe.

โ€œThe exams will be conducted in same schools where students are enrolled and the duration will be reduced to 90 minutes. The questions will be objective and very short answer types. Students will have to appear in one language and three elective subjects. The first phase of exams, under this option, will tentatively begin from July 15 to August 1 and the second phase from August 8-26. Exams are proposed to be conducted on Sundays too," an official source informed PTI.

In case a student misses an exam due to Covid19 related issues, they'll be given an option of appearing for exams at a later stage too i.e. after 15 days, however, if this facility will be offered or not will be known on June 1.

Further, the exams will strictly follow the COVID19 protocols and guidelines. Social distancing will be followed while making students write the exams.

While the suggestions by the minister gained consensus from a majority of states, some of them including Maharashtra and Delhi have openly disagreed with the move. These states are to submit their detailed proposals regarding their conduct by May 25.

Pokhriyal has given states, especially those in disagreement, time till May 25 to submit their detailed proposals.

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said that conducting the exams amid the pandemic might prove to be a big mistake and a failure. He also demanded that all Class 12 students should be vaccinated before appearing for the exams.

He suggested that either Pfizer (whose vaccine of kids has been accepted by several countries) should be consulted or should give our own vaccine after consulting experts considering they are 17.5 years old and only months away from 18. People who have attained the age of 18 and above are eligible to get vaccinated in India.

The state of Maharashtra had also suggested a non-exam route for evaluating Class 12 students. Maharashtra State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had said, โ€œHealth and mental well-being of children, their families must be our priority. Since most professional courses hold entrance exams for admissions, many experts are of the view that it is possible to evaluate the performance of a class 12th student based on a retroactive assessment model."
