Talking about the importance of reduction in syllabus amid these difficult times, the Minister of Human Resource and Development posted several tweets from his official Twitter handle and confirmed CBSE's decision.
The Central Board of Secondary Education is all set to reduce the syllabus of Classes 9 to 12. Talking about the importance of reduction in syllabus amid these difficult times, the Minister of Human Resource and Development posted several tweets from his official Twitter handle. The HRD Minister in his first tweet stated, “Considering the importance of learning achievement, it has been decided to rationalize syllabus up to 30% by retaining the core concepts.” Earlier, a CBSE official confirmed, the new syllabus is almost ready and would be shared with the respective schools soon. The reports also suggest that CBSE may reduce the syllabus by 33% for CBSE 10th Board Exams 2021 and CBSE 12th Board Exams 2021. CBSE is also expected to revise the paper pattern.
Mr. Pokhriyal further added, “To aid the decision, a few weeks back I also invited suggestions from all educationists on the reduction of #SyllabusForStudents2020 and I am glad to share that we received more than 1.5K suggestions. Thank you, everyone, for the overwhelming response.” Previously, various media reports suggested that the CBSE is in conversation with various stakeholders and also NCERT to rationalize the existing syllabus for secondary and higher secondary classes in view of the prevalent conditions. Considering the fact that schools may not open in many regions and the difficulty schools are facing while imparting education online, the board finally decided to release a revised curriculum for Classes 9 to 12. For classes 1 to 8, the board already notified schools to accordingly make the changes.
The minister further stated, “Looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and the world, #CBSE was advised to revise the curriculum and reduce course load for the students of Class 9th to 12th.” CBSE is yet to release details regarding the reduced syllabus. Until then the expected reduction in the CBSE Syllabus 2021 is given below:
CBSE New Syllabus 2020-21: Expected changes
- Syllabus expected to be reduced by 25 to 33%. However, complete chapters would not be removed.
