Earlier, the Maharashtra education department announced that the last SSC examination of Geography subject, scheduled for March 23, will take place on a revised date, to be announced after March 31.

Amid the nationwide lockdown due to the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country, the Maharashtra Board exams that were earlier postponed until March 31 are now postponed till further notice. Due to this extended deferment, the city teachers want the state government to now cancel the last remaining SSC papers instead of postponing them again.

Earlier, the Maharashtra education department announced that the last SSC examination of Geography subject, scheduled for March 23, will take place on a revised date, to be announced after March 31. However, now the nationwide lockdown is extended by 21 days and it is evident that the examination is not happening anywhere before April 15.

Talking about this extended postponement, Principal of Shailendra Education Society, Dahisar, Sudam Kumbhar stated that during this time of crisis, the Board could mark students only on five subjects for this one year. He further supported his statement saying that since the students have appeared for history examination, the Board can allow them to pass the group based on an average score.

However, the official of the state education board expressed that they haven’t received any official request from the teachers regarding the cancellation of the remaining examination.

Meanwhile, a 15-year old boy from Mumbai tested positive for Covid-19. According to the reports, before he tested positive, the boy was appearing for his SSC board examinations, along with other 36 students at the exam centre in south Mumbai. After the test results of the boy came positive, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) came into action and made a list of all the students who came in contact with the boy while appearing for the examination at the same exam centre. The corporation took their swab samples for testing.
